It could be both. If you use bots to upvote irrelavent content (spamming or plagarism) it might be loss for you. But if you make good content and buy upvotes for it it might help you.
And the reason for not buying upvote or spam is because it take ur post to trending post like this of and peopl can flag you. Hope you try to make this community a better place.
