What I think should be done with the @steemit account

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

Days ago, I ran across a post from @tarazkp about his idea on what should be done with the largest steem account holder on this platform, @steemit which holds a whooping 44 million Steem Power. His idea was to:

Make it into a bidbot where users can bid to get its support except, instead of taking out of the pool, it pays in STEEM POWER directly from its own account.

I honestly do find the idea interesting. As someone who uses bid-bots from time to time, my main goal is to increase my Steem Power. SBD-wise it's not really profitable, but I see it as the most perfect way to convert your hard-earned SBD to SP with only a bearable loss, plus you get some visibility in the process.

His idea to make it into a bid bot that pays Steem Power to which will be taken from the @steemit account instead of the reward pool is... interesting, as it will likely take the guilt out of those who use bid-bots solely for the reason of converting some SBD to SP and for the whole "visibility" thing.

But I do have another idea in mind on what I think should be done with the @steemit account.

You might have seen the image below before you log.in to Steemit.com.

Get paid for good content. Since Steemit.com is often marketed and called as a blogging platform, it makes sense that most of the posts you'll see on the site will be articles and informal diary-style text entries. New users who saw the image above, will then try to write and post good content articles, because it says right there that you will be paid if you post "good content".

What they don't know is that there is no assurance that you will be paid just for posting good contents. If you are a blogger who is new to writing and have no friends on this platform, chances are you'll only get less than $0.5 for writing a 1000 word article(Assuming that @curie, @ocd, @steemstem or any other curator groups didn't see the post), just because you have no friends who will upvote you and that your article will likely drown along with many others in the sea of endless spam minutes after posting.

While good content is all subjective, I think we can all agree that someone who puts an effort to write a 1000 word article should also be rewarded something for the effort they put in right? And here is where my idea will be starting from.

Other platforms(mostly dapps) like @dlive, @dtube, @dsound, @steepshot, @utopian-io, @esteemapp and @steempress-io have all received over 1Million Steem Power delegation from @misterdelegation to which they mostly use to curate good contents on their platform. Now I'm not gonna lie, I used to have some reservations on contents their curators usually upvote(I initially thought that they are just voting within their circle of friends) but after seeing some people who have an initial payout of only $0.01 being upvoted at $15 more, I guess the delegation is working as it was intended to, that is too pay people who post good contents.

Since those platforms have a little less userbase compared to steemit's over 60k+ active accounts, it is understandable that not all good contents on Steemit.com will be rewarded. With only a small number of curators, no one will be able to check all contents published to the blockchain. And that is why my idea is to incorporate or make something similar to how the busy bots( @busy.org & @busy.pay) work. The idea is to use the @steemit account to upvote users who have successfully met certain criterias.

The criteria can be as simple as :

  1. The Post should have over 500 words with at least 2 images present (no cheetah or steemcleaner flag)
  2. Author didn't received any downvote for that week
  3. Have not used any popular bid-bots
  4. If the author have a natural SP of over 15K, he is not eligible for an upvote
  5. Payout must be less than $10.
  6. The @steemit account is limited to upvote the same author only 2 to 3 times per week

Since Steem Now's upvote calculator can only calculate at a maximum of 10Million Steem Power. A 0.02% upvote at that power will give around $7.37 which is enough to make people feel rewarded for the post they make. It will also encourage people to write more detailed post and in the process will achieve much more user retention since new users no longer need to fully rely on the community for support. Of course, they are also still encourage to interact with others.

With a lot of opportunists on this platform, I do see this being gamed by many people. But it also presents an opportunity for Steemit Inc to test that Oracle thing they are working on for a while now. Reward users who have successfully met all the criterias. In other words, reward active users.

It still baffles me why there are no other incentives for using Steemit.com, other platforms reward their users for creating good contents and yet Steemit.com seems to have none.

Very interesting ideas here - @jlordc - I really like the parameters you've chosen for the hypothetical content posts' user accounts - and the post itself - to me both are equally important in deciding which posts for an acct like @steemit to curate.

I do think that 15k in SP is a little steep though as a parameter - if the intention was to help unseen posts and help the newest user then why not 1500 SP or even 500 SP.

As most of us know on Steemit - the platforms payouts processes and distribution on wealth (influence) is so skewed that it may not be fixable at this point.

I try to stay as positive as possible about Steemit.com because I love it and have always wanted the best for the platform.

The reality is now tho that it has become an investment machine for top 1% of it's users with a ROI beyond comprehension.

I don't have a solution while allowing the platform to operate - my only ideas come by means of putting a 'freeze' to the platform to reallign itself, it's users, it's payout pool, and to rid itself of allowing any type of 'bot' whatsoever

How can a 'social platform' community have over 30% of it's users activity derived from algorithm based boots and money generating bots? image

Hi! Thanks for the reply.

I think going lower than 1500 or even 500 SP might exclude a lot of accounts. I don't have the numbers but I believe the majority of serious bloggers, active ones and people who really believe on what this platform can do but have no big initial investment lies between 500SP to 5kSP, so going lower than 1500 might seem unfair to some. :)

The main issue of steemit is that it's way more profitable and less time consuming just to self-upvote and abuse the system (for anyone holding SP). The only way I see this change is when a lot of SP from the devs is being used to both reward good users and punish scammers.

It would be nice to see the SP being delegated to all kinds of honest projects that both keep Steemit clean and encourage good behavior or form strong communities. I really like how the busy votes are being spread and it would be nice to have something similar like you suggest.

I would not set a maximum SP though, one of the issues for bigger accounts is that it becomes increaingly difficult to beat the 10 daily self-upvotes since the amount of even bigger accounts that give support is very limited. (which is needed to beat the 10x selfvote number).

Hi! This is jlk.news intelligent bot. I just upvoted your post based on my criteria for quality. Keep on writing nice posts on Steemit and follow me @jlkreiss to get premium world news updates round the clock! 🦄🦄🦄
