Where it might be harder to convince Steemit Inc to do this kind of thing when they have already been paid. It would be easier to convince say another site maintainer (@leprechaun) who is just looking for things to do.
My proposal, is the profile information is and would continue to be stored in the blockchain but in Steemfiles you would be able to pull it up other Steem condensers will be able to follow suit or Steemfiles will get popular if I could get just earn a small amount from perhaps votes or ads, so that I can cover my VPS costs.
Right now, I only have the test site up. It used to be a way of downloading files for a fee but there were not enough downloads for me to continue doing that.
I am sure that there are ample options out there for each front end owner (private business) to incorporate various features to their "websites".
Your suggestion could very well be one of those options that they should look into.
Again, I don't wish to suggest how anyone should go about their business as far as their economical planning goes, the goal here is as was stated between the lines and somewhat directly, to ensure the customers get what the customers want and need. In this case we the people, who make up a social network being the customers.
We have shown how valuable we are in the past, i.e. when Steem tokens needed to be listed on various other crypto sites/services. So the number one asset of Steem is US, the people that make up the social network and this is what needs to be expanded and diversified so as to include all sorts of investors such as yourself, myself and millions more like us!
