Happy UGADI ( South Indian New Year ) to all the lovely fellow Steemians

Yesterday was a very auspicious day for us as it's UGADI. The name Yugadi or Ugadi is derived from the Sanskrit words yuga (age) and adi (beginning): "the beginning of a new age". It's the New Year's Day for the people of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana , Karnataka and Maharashtra, states in India. It is festively observed in these regions on the first day of the Hindu lunisolar calendar month of Chaitra. This typically falls in March or April of the Gregorian calendar. The day is celebrated by drawing colorful patterns on floor , decorating the doors with mango tree leaves, buying and wearing traditional clothes, giving charity to the needy, preparing and sharing a special food called "Ugadi Pachadi(Pickle)".

Coming to Ugadi Pachadi(Pickle) , there is a significance for this. According to Vasudha Narayanan, a professor of Religion at the University of Florida - The pachadi festive dish symbolically reminds the people that the following year – as all of life – will consist of not just sweet experiences, but a combination of sweet, sour, salty, and bitter episodes. Just as the different substances are bound together, one is reminded that no event or episode is wholly good or bad. Even in the midst of bitter experiences, there are sweet moments. One is also reminded that the experience of taste is transitory and ephemeral; so too, is life, and one has to learn to put pain and pleasure in proper temporal perspective.

So in my home we performed pooja and offered prayers to the lord's and here is a picture of the pooja mandap after the rituals are finished and we all were obviously in high spirits celebrating the Festival.

Also in the evening Panchanga Sravanam is done , which is hearing astrological predictions from a Brahmin. To know what the stars foretell - Predictions2018-2019. I insist you to do so as it is lot of fun. You can check your predictions for the ration of your income and expenses,ratio of honour and dishonour etc. Luckily it turned out that my income to expediture ratio is 7:1 which made me quite excited going in to the new year.
