RE: Trending, flags and the case of Ormus Gold
I don't agree with flagging in general. If I don't like your content then I will skip over it and not upvote it. I do agree that there are certain circumstances that flagging is warranted. The problem is that some are too flag happy and flag others due to different opinions such as what tag is used for what. Which leads me to my next point.
While tags like introduceyourself are self explanatory a tag like Steemit is not. One can view that tag in such a way that allows it to be used on any Steemit topic.
I still haven't visit the topic you linked but by the sounds of it.. this is a new user we are talking about. New users should be educated and then warned long before getting flagged. Actually that goes for any user.
I have no problem that his post is selling a service. How many post on Steemit has an affiliate link attached to it ? There are many. I first used my account to advertise new crypto start ups and in returned I got paid in crypto for the articles I wrote. I see many others doing similar things with their accounts. What he done is no different.
What separates him from the others is he had the money to advertise to a wider audience. If this person wants to advertise using his account then all the power to them. I wish them the best of luck.
I don't have a problem with posts selling things either. It's our blog and we should be able to sell things if we want from it.
A lot of these problems could be helped by changes in the Steemit UI and interface. Things just need to be tagged correctly and organized better. I see a lot of plagiarism in all different areas of content and while that's irritating I just move on. Cheetah seems to be broken as I haven't seen it in a while.
Yeah I dont bother to much when I see plagarised content I just move on aswell - I know that these people wont last on here just copy/pasting work of others. Yeah Cheetah is broken I had a comment a while back for a link to something not even related to my post
Yeah you raise some good points @rentmoney - I dont flag people if I dont agree with their opinions -that was half the appeal of Steemit for me in the first place - a place we can openly share opinions and ideas without the fear of a centralised authority disagreeing.
The only time I flag people is when it is obvious they are phishing scams - I dont want people seeing that on here - especially newer users who are bit more vulnerable to this type of thing.
I think along with the fact people didnt agree with this post it was the fact that it was the top of trending - as I mentioned if this post had been botted up to half the ammount there wouldnt have been so much controversy
