trying to get educated on MT GOX

I have been hearing about MT GOX lately but I am still new and learning about the CRYPTO universe. One big topic I am uneducated on is MT GOX. The intent with this post is to reach out to the STEEMIT community, in attempt to learn more about this or be provided resources where I can do some research.
