The LPGA

A Truly International Golf Tour By:
@paradise-found

Entrance to Thornberry Creek
LPGA Classic

The LPGA was founded in 1950 and is the longest running women’s professional sports association in the world. Today LPGA players represent 32 countries with 125 international players. The LPGA tour itself is played in 15 countries, making it the most international of the professional golfing tours. In fact more than 160 countries televise the LPGA each week, with over 400 hours of coverage in the US alone.

EXCITING PLAYERS

Long drives are exciting to watch, and the LPGA has many long hitters. The longest drivers on the LPGA tour average 280 yards off the tee, with over 100 LPGA players averaging over 250 yards. Yes, these women are talented golfers, making the LPGA one of the most exciting sports leagues in the world today.

Remember the days of Jack Nickaluas, Arnold Palmer, and Lee Trevino? Certainly they are legends of the game from a golden era. Watching them you could see they had different styles and very differing swings. In contrast, today’s PGA players have swings that are seemingly very similar. Clearly, the variety of styles and swings has changed with the passing of time.

Those golden years of men’s golf remind me of today’s LPGA. Yes, some of the ladies have perfect swings, but many have a style all their own. Another reason why I enjoy watching the LPGA tour so much. These world-class athletes can really play golf, are uniquely entertaining, plus they are young and good-looking. What’s not to like?

THORNBERRY CREEK LPGA CLASSIC

Wisconsin hosted the 2017 Men’s US Open Championship at Erin Hills Golf Course. I have friends and relatives that enjoyed attending and watching the world’s best. But when the LPGA came to Wisconsin this year (July 3-9, 2017) this was the event for me!
The host course for this inaugural event, Thornberry Creek at Oneida, has the distinction of being the official golf course of the Green Bay Packers. This public course is a beautiful layout with elevation changes, towering stands of trees and sweeping visa’s to challenge your game and arouse your senses.

LPGA players at the Thornberry Classic

There were many LPGA stars in the competition including US players, Paula Creamer, Christina Kim, Alison Lee, and Christie Kerr. Notable international players included; Brooke Henderson (Canada), Charlie Hull (England), Minjee Lee (Australia), Inbee Park (S. Korea), Suzann Petterson (Norway), In Gee Chun (S. Korea), Sandra Gal (Germany), Karrie Webb (Australia), Catriona Matthew (Scotland) and Yani Tseng (Taiwan).

ELECTRIFYING FINISH

The 2017 Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic came down to the last hole. Katherine Kirk (-22) of Australia was holding a slim one stroke lead over Ashleigh Buhai (-21) of South Africa. I had a front row seat on the par 3, 17th, as Kirk narrowly missed a 10 foot par putt, trimming the margin to 1 stroke.
Both players hit first-rate drives on the 18th hole, a difficult par 4. What makes the 18th difficult is the approach to the green is steeply uphill, requiring a nearly blind shot, to a back pin placement. Under immense pressure, both players hit excellent approach shots, Kirk to 10 feet, and Buhai did even better, hitting to 3 feet. With the championship on the line, Katherine Kirk rolled in a breaking 10 foot birdie putt capturing the title.

It was an amazing display of golf by the talented champion, Katherine Kirk, and the electrifying international field of LPGA stars. By any standard it was a memorable day at this impressive event and I definitely look forward to the 2018 Thornberry Creek Classic at Oneida.

WIMBLEDON 2017: Roger Federer seals record eight title. By

By: @thechronicals23

Roger Federer cruised to his eight Wimbledon title and 19th major by beating a hobbling Marin Cilic 6-3, 6-1, 6-4. Federer took only an hour and 41 minutes to win his eight Wimbledon title, 14 years after his first, and left his opponent, Marin Cilic, in a bedazzled heap on Centre Court.

It is the Swiss’ second slam title of the year after beating Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open final. Federer did not drop a set at Wimbledon, and there is no reason to say that the 35-year-old in sport cannot go on to win the final major of the year.
Cilic was reduced to a one-legged bystander once his left foot gave up on him after the first set. He had his trainer on and buried his head in his towel in the second set, but he did not quit.

Roger became the first man to win Wimbledon eight times. He also became the oldest man in the Open Era to win at the All England Club.

In the Women’s Final, Garbine Muguruza won her first Wimbledon title, beating Venus Williams 7-5, 6-0. Murguza is the first person to beat both Williams sisters in slam singles finals.

Wayne Rooney – Red Devil. Legend. Toffee.

By: @mraldo

He arrived 13 years ago and subsequently became a piece of United's history and one of England's all-time greats. Now he is back at his boyhood club.

Young Wayne was like a bird of prey, and the ball was his prey. He began his career with Everton at 16, and was tearing it up with England before joining 'Man U'. On his debut with United, he showed his brilliance by scoring a hat-trick against Fenerbahçe in the UEFA Champions League; a good beginning, no doubt. Wazza was United's top league scorer that season with 11 goals, and won the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

He was only 18 years old when Sir Alex Ferguson brought him to Manchester United, but he had already played two seasons with Everton and was considered the biggest prospect to have come out their academy. Back then he was a green, raw, but electrifying and exciting; with incredible potential. He was immediately touted as England's next big thing.

Disliked, more so than liked, is one way to describe Wayne Rooney nowadays, though. It will probably take some more years before people start to truly appreciate the magnitude of Rooney's achievements with United and England. All Time Top Scorer for both club and country should ring a bell.

But make no mistake; Wayne Rooney is one of the greatest players to don the Red Devils shirt. To the left you will find a graphic; courtesy of the BBC, showing how he scored the 253 goals that got him to topple Sir Bobby Charlton as United's All Time Top Goalscorer. Along with that are 145 assists, which coupled together helped Man U to many tittles.

Now that he has departed many fans feel relieved, as if a dead weight was gone. The reason for that is his inconsistency, but also due to his two fall outs with United, where he demanded to leave to a rival team, only to end up renovating with much higher wages. First it was city rival Manchester City, then Chelsea; only to later end up with a massive £250k per week. This behavior had him lose his club legend status in the eyes of many.

Rooney was an important part of one of the most successful period in United's history. At some point, he was part of what was considered one of the worlds deadliest front three, comprised of 'Carlitos' Tévez, Cristiano Ronaldo, and himself. During his time at the Red Devils, he won 5 Premier League titles, The UEFA Champions League, The UEFA Europa League, 4 League Cups, 5 English Super Cups, 1 FA Cup, and 1 FIFA Club World Cup. That is 18 titles in 13 years.

Despite his evident decline, Everton; that is currently reforming the team, is more than happy to take Wazza back. Especially if he comes as part of a huge £90 million deal with United for Lukaku.

The toffees expect Rooney's experience, leadership and skills will help the club achieve new heights. His legs may be going, but Wayne still has enough football in his boots to shut some mouths.

However, his fall outs with the Red Devil's fanbase are not the only reason the public's perception of Rooney is poor. Despite all his achievements with Man U, he didn't accomplish much with the England NT. He failed to truly reach the heights he was expected to reach, was always inconsistent, lacking the work ethics of greats like Ronaldo and Messi. Furthermore, his decline came early. That is why, at 31, and after three lackluster years, he's back home.

"It is some time since I said that the only Premier League club I would play for other than Manchester United was Everton, so I am delighted that the move has happened."
– Wayne Rooney

"Wayne has shown me that ambition that we need and that winning mentality -- he knows how to win titles and I'm really happy he's decided to come home."
– Ronald Koeman, Everton FC's manager

Welcome…This is one of the first things someone may say in chat. Unless, the Steemian bursts in complaining that they were flagged by Cheetah or @steemcleaners – then someone may begin with, well what did you plagiarize or copy pasta?

At least these two exist to help keep theft-of-content folks form draining the reward pool, but what about the posts that are not only un-original, but hide their re-worded content better? Or folks that are really only here to manipulate the system? What can be done to keep these folks from being a drain and preventing great, but buried content from getting votes?

I want to propose an algorithm and checks that are quite similar to what students and professional writers go through when submitting their work to professors and research journals. If you have never seen this software, let me start with why it came about…

The Internet allowed college students and scientists unparalleled access to folks that they could pay to do their writing. Now, sure students should be doing it on their own, but really there is no harm in professionals hiring writing help.

The problem arose when the hired writers were re-selling the same works over and over and over again. There was now a need to for software to perform a review and rank the writing. Truly, this was a brilliant solution to a growing issue.

We have a new issue on Steemit. There are folks that are taking advantage of a neat system – we need to implement a review policy and use some of my favorite geeky algorithmic things to prevent horrible content and vote theft from damaging a fragile eco-system. And self-voting needs to go.

What would this mean? It means that the folks changed 100 plus words in a stolen article would be instantly prevented from this work going live on the blockchain. It would be mean that the mad user that just posted a weblink to an article because they were caught changing words, would not have upvotes enabled because while it is not theft, it has nothing to do with:

And I am not referring to all pooh posts because there are some great pooh that is of the humor kind. The would be tweakable to recognize original humour of poohness. All it takes is putting the right folks on the job.

This platform is genius, but to see a lack of 21st century safeguards in place is a bit frustrating. Steemit, Inc. and Witnesses are you going to take content review into the future, with the Steem – Or is it going to be left in the past, only to drain rewards and cause great folks to walk away?
