How to be a Minnow-BULL

in #steemit5 years ago (edited)

Exactly 60 days on Steemit now and what I have achieved is - 161 followers.

If you look at the number of followers of other users - they are in thousands and you might feel bad if you are new. But no need, because last year, getting followers was easy, there were dapps to get new followers quickly and also mass users on Steemit. But in current scenario, 1 follower means a real person came to your blog and clicked on the button 'FOLLOW'.

So getting 161 followers in 60 days is quite a personal achievement for me and yes it makes me really happy.

Here are some clear cut points I want to tell my minnow friends to grow faster

--

Become part of communities that suits your personal interests.

Yes, go explore Steemit, do not just sit after publishing your blogs - you will find a lot of communities and you must join the one that matches your interest. Because communities means support of like-minded people. Not only you will feel supported but also happy.

--

Do not just publish blogs, promote them as well.

Do not just publish your articles and sit, do not expect someone would come and read them. Along with writing good genuine blogs it is your sole responsibility to promote them well. I am a curator and as a curator I am telling you *all curators browse through post-promotion channel and curate on good posts* So if you are not going to promote your content, chances of you being discovered by a curator are very less.

--

Use the right tags.

Do not just put any randoms tags while publishing a blog. Study other blogs on Steemit and make a list of tags that can be useful to your genre of content and make sure to use those tags. As a curator when I am looking for good posts, I search blogs on basis of their tags, so make the best use of various tags to be discovered.

--

Go out there and engage.

No one will come to see your great work by themselves, you need to get up and visit blogs of others. Engagement is the key - Visit blogs of other people, leave meaningful comment - You will learn something new and those users will come back to your blog for sure. If they do not, then go engage with a new set of users. But do not stop engaging.

--

Become a curator if your interest lies in it. Curator is a position that gives you real joy.

Curating for other channels is something that might make you feel weird if all you are looking for is money. But if you are looking for some happiness, engagement, self-value - then Curating is something you should give a try. I really like it when I curate on posts through different channels and make under-rewarded users happy. At the end of day, it instils a sense of satisfaction and happiness deep in my heart. And honestly I am learning so much about the world this way, 60 days and I know people from all around the world. *FEELS AMAZING.*

--

Write genuine content with a personal touch.

Do not just write anything in your blogs. Even if you are publishing something as simple as a contest participation post, make it a good one. Write about your picture - what is it and where did you take it. If you are writing about a general subject after searching from internet - give it a personal touch. Don't make it boring - Treat your blogs like little diaries of your life and you obviously would not like it to be boring.

--

Do not even think about plagiarizing, you lose people's trust.

You know curators come no where near users who plagiarize? So does not good users. Even if you are studying content somewhere else on internet and want to write up a research based post, simply mention the sources in your article. That is absolutely ok. But if you do not and end up getting a cheetah vote on your blog - you ruin your user stats. Whenever a curator would look at your stats before getting you a vote, they would discard the idea because of Cheetah votes even if they were in past. So be kind to yourself here.

I hope all the points help someone. Any questions, feel free to reach out for help to anyone or me(Discord username - VibesforLife)

Just to clear the doubts, I created my account in september 2018 but left after writing a few blogs because of extreme health issues. Then i joined back on 29 march 2019.

not yet, I cannot do pushups because of my week body nerves. :p

ha ha, you don't have to pushup, just tweet and say something about Steem

Your progress is very impressive! In just 60 days getting these many followers is a proof of your blog's popularity, your community bonding spirit and your inter-personnel skills.

Esp. after HF-20, people almost forgot to click on Follow button for some time. Even today, followers are not easy to win over.

I liked the term "Minnow-BULL" What a multi-specie combination :) May you become a whale-ELEPHANT soon ...LOL!

thank you :):)

what is HF-20?

I also liked the word Minnow-Bull hehe, hahahaha whale elephant hahaha I am laughing.

All these in 2 months? Very impressive and i think more users should read this post. All of the points you mention are very important, like being part of a community and try to be as active as possible. Many new users do not understand that and they think that by bringing the best possible content you will get positive attention. It is not like that, the activity is the one who will get you the attention:)

Yeah all this in 2 months - I spend 4-6 hours everyday on Steemit. In the beginning it was more. Exactly, users need to understand there is a lot more to the story than just publishing good content. :)

Thanks for stopping by :)

Interesting article for newbies..As I ...

thanks, glad you liked it :)

Congratulations !!
It's really a journey for everyone

To gain new followers is takes time now, and you need to work hard to get them. Also, to join a good community provides a way to get in touch with people and receive support in return.

Exactly - Getting followers take time and being part of communities help. :)

That is good going over 60 days, positive points raised, helping with tips good reminders to those who have been here a lot longer, great read!

Yeah some good points, glad you liked them Joan :)
