Ulog 38: Sowing My Indoor WInter Garden Seeds Has Commenced

in #steemitbloggers5 years ago (edited)

Today was the day I started sowing my seeds for my indoor winter garden. Last winter was the first year I attempted this and had some good success. Success as in eating a homegrown garden tomato in March. Better than any store-bought tomato. So since I have the space (and another grow tent sitting idle), I figured, let's get it started.

So today I gathered up my seed storage boxes, my peat pods and got to work.

So far for this initial sowing I decided on planting the following:

  • Catnip (as I am running low this year on it because my plants outside didn't produce as much as I thought it would)
  • Lemon grass
  • Beefsteak tomatoes
  • Holy Basil
  • Oregano
  • Tarragon

For now this is all, but I will be adding more in the coming weeks.

In my spare bedroom, which I refer to as my grow room (yes, because this is where I grow cannabis too) I have expanded the area/tents in which I can grow. I have four tents in there and right now one is empty (as I use it for drying and curing cannabis only) and I'll be using this one to get my indoor winter garden started.

Maybe one day soon I'll do an update on my cannabis growing to share with you all. But generally I keep all those posts on SMOKE.io. You can find me there under the same username- @goldendawne
There has been a lot things changing in my cannabis world, and so many updates and expansions going on in my little world. I hope you'll join me over on SMOKE.io to see it all.

I also move my gardening table from the corner of my kitchen into our extra bedroom. The kitchen area where I work at the laptop was becoming to claustrophobic for me and I needed to give myself some elbow room. So as soon as Mr Golden D headed out to work, I headed into this bedroom, coffee in hand and began moving things around to accommodate the table.
Now all I have to do is organize the table and the contents better and I can officially call this room my garden room.

Sounds good to me. Did you use soil, peat, sand or other enriched earth?

For now until the seedlings start sprouting, they're in a peat pod. But once they need to be transplanted into a bigger pot, I'll be using coco coir soil with perlite. I absolutely LOVE this soil; so forgiving and helps if you over water.

Good for you @goldendawne! And what a way to make the winter go by a little faster :) Living in Mexico, I've discovered year-round growing season and it's awesome! A few months ago, I took a slice of tomato (very ripened with obvious seeds), and planted the whole thing in a pot. I can't believe it, but the plants are several feet tall now and I have my first tomatoes turning red! Purple basil came up like wildfire too. Isn't awesome growing your own stuff ... cannabis included; that's next on my list :)

Merry Christmas to you and Mr. Golden D too :)

Good way to make use of a spare room. Most of what you grow we are able to do all year round being sub-tropical. Problem is the monkey's steal all my tomatoes or fruit that arrives, no solution to that problem yet.

Swinging by to thank you for all you do in various places making Steemit a better place to be.

Howdy goldendawne! wow you're making all kinds of changes and progress, great job! Things will be much more efficient too.
