YEAH.. We Got An LG 4K Cinema Super UHD/HDR OLED 65-Inch TV - And I Have No Regrets

Two weeks ago we decided to upgrade our television. We don't have much entertainment in our lives as we rarely go out. It's been close to a decade since I stepped foot in a movie theater; and with the price of everything so high, it just makes more sense to stay home, save the money and enjoy each other's company.

We cut the cord on the television and satellite company in February 2017 and have been watching shows on the Amazon Fire Stick and on apps (amazon, Netflix, YouTube) and other various apps on the Smart TV.

So one Saturday, Mr Golden D had it in his mind to look at the 4K televisions on the market. We traveled the hour to the electronics store and two hours later were on our way home with this BEAUTY.

APPS

It has all the apps we use now and some more we never had before. Plus it has MUCH better internet capabilities; even being able to use my wireless keyboard. I have been playing around with the apps and still need to download things like Discovery Go app, the History Channel app and others. As I have said numerous times in the past, we love history shows, documentaries and other fact-based shows.

REMOTE CONTROL

The "Voice Button" allows you to connect with Google Assist and ask anything! Yes... it's true.
I connected the devices to the television (which you can connect any device from cell phones, tablets, laptops and so much more).
I asked the TV the distance from my location to Washington DC just to test it and a map popped up showing the drive, mileage and hours to get there. Quite cool that ThinQ AI technology

If I go into YouTube and want to watch money saving videos, all I do is hit the Voice Button and say the keyword I want searched and in the matter of seconds, videos start popping up.

OTHER TECHNOLOGY & FEATURES

  • It has four HDMI connections
  • It has three USB connections
  • Screen Share capabilities

We watched a few YT videos that claim to be 4K capable and I have to say some of the movies I hit up on KODI with 4K viewing are phenomenal! The image quality is spectacular; and me not being person who really cares about such things... I was impressed.

Our old TV (which really wasn't that old, as we bought it about three years ago) was a 55-inch Smart TV with apps like Amazon, Netflix and YT and we gave it ti my parents. We had bought them an Amazon Fire Stick last year for Mother's and Father's Day so they could cut the cord also. They are on a fixed retiree's income and their cable bill was over $140/month.. that IS CRAZY!

So our upgrade turned into an upgrade for my mom and dad. They went from a 39-inch Vizio to a 55-inch Sony Smart/HD/3D television. They are in their glory being able to see better quality pictures, have a newer TV and my dad is becoming addicted to YT videos and has been watching how-to and home improvement videos.

  • MSRP - $2199.99 - Our price was $1029 out the door. But this will be our entertainment budget for years to come. You have to figure an average couple spends anywhere from $50-100 USD per month on entertainment, so this will pay for itself in about one year.

And you can use it as a computer monitor for Steemit!

Oh yes!!! No need for my eyeglasses then!

Sounds like you made a great purchase. LG has been making some really good stuff for years. I haven't pulled the trigger on a 4K TV yet because the broadcast stuff just isn't out there yet. Since you have cut the cord though, that makes sense. Congrats on your purchase!

This was hubby's thing but I can reap the benefits too.

For sure!

Ahahahahaha Right now on my music box "Blow Up Your TV" by John Prine.

Good for you! I had the cord cut but just couldn't stand it (cough NASCAR) so I've been back just over a year. Since then I've got Firestick TV so the cord is just hanging on til the end of the month.

Thanks for a great review, I am always interested in new tech.

Yeah we thought we'd have same issue for sports but we don't miss it at all.

First time round I read that you'd cut the cord on your TV 👍🏾

Sold mine when I moved to Spain, feels good! 😁

Lol... Not the TV!! The over priced satellite monthly charges. We would only watch maybe a dozen channels... so we were paying way too much. This has been much better for us and our budget.

Looks impressive.

We dropped our TV Licence about 5 years ago and since then our TV has sat idle in the corner. The children used to use it for XBox etc but as they have grown up it is no longer used.

And we can't get satellite here either. Just use the PC now.

We were the same way when the kids were at home.... a TV in every room with a satellite box and the bill was outrageous! We cut back on the boxes when the kids left but still had an over-priced TV viewing bill and finally got fed up.

Perfectly timed in case you guys are planning to enjoy the World Cup :)

We're not too heavily into sports but I am imagining the pixel quality would be stupendous for sports! There's even a video input in the settings for sports- it's called the Motion Rate... some TVs are MR120 but ours is MR240; which means when you're watching say a baseball game and it's a ground ball... the ball hits the turf and sometimes you can see the fuzzy spots where the ball skips on the turf... well this MR240 eliminates that fuzzy turf... still have to test it out at home; although we did watch it happen on the TV in the store while watching the Detroit Tigers ball game.

Congrats on the new tv and for cutting the cord! I can't remember how long (several years at least) I've been without "regular scheduled programming" but I don't miss it, at all!

Us either really. Sure I miss certain shows but eventually they come on streaming apps so we're good.
I have been addicted to YT and Dtube lately; watching many of them every day

it is very great that you have a great entertainment equipment, well as you say is better stay outside enjoy the mountaint as stay in home watching how others live their lives, but some times is good idea rest and stay in home.
