Accept yourself

We have all at one or other time looked at ourselves in the mirror and thought Why am I so tall? Why do I not have bigger eyes?  Why is my nose so big?  A lot of thoughts going through your head all at once and what you mostly do is just find fault with yourself.

It is easy to go in a downward spiral in which you only see the "faults" on your body.  We forget that besides from being kind to other people, we also need to be kind to ourselves.

Being a teenager will mean that a lot of changes are taking place on the inside and outside of your body. Changes that you will not always like.  But remember this, the more you are breaking yourself down and finding fault, the more you are going to damage your self-esteem.

What is the meaning of the word self-esteem?  Lets call in Google to help.

In sociology and psychology, self-esteem reflects a person's overall  subjective emotional evaluation of his or her     own worth. It is a judgment of oneself as well as an attitude toward the self

If you read the explanation carefully you will understand that first of all it is an "subjective emotional evaluation" which means you are not objective, you are not looking at all the angles and you are looking at yourself through emotional glasses - meaning that most of the time you will find fault if you look for it.

Judging yourself can make you feel even worse and doubt your self-worth.

The first thing you always need to remember is that you need to love yourself and feel comfortable with yourself in order for other people to feel the same way.  Nobody can let you think bad thoughts about yourself, except you, so stop finding fault every single day and start looking for the positive, beautiful qualities that you have.

Do not compare yourself to somebody else - you are unique, there is nobody like you and even if there are a few things that you maybe do not like about yourself, like your legs and your nose, the bad news is There is nothing you can do about it, so the quicker you accept yourself for the wonderful human you are the better your life will be,

If you accept yourself and feel happy with who you are, you will quickly notice that you radiate the positive vibes and good self esteem, people will pick up on it and they will accept you exactly the way you are.

It is not always easy to feel good about yourself, especially in your teenage years and peer pressure to be thin and cool and whatever people have decided you must be, but the question is..... are you going to let people dictate your feelings about yourself or are you going to stand up for yourself and try and improve your self esteem?  At the end of the day it is only you that needs to be able to live with yourself.

Here are a few tips on what you can do to reach that point

A big mistake you can make is looking through magazines and comparing yourself to the models.  Remember that not all people are that skinny or pretty and the joke is that most of those photographs are "doctored".   You need to be comfortable with who you are.

So what if you are the tallest or not the skinniest in the class?  If you feel comfortable in your own skin, who will dare tell you that you are not worthy of feeling that way?

It is not something that will happen magically overnight where you  will suddenly feel so good about yourself, but the more you practice seeing the good in yourself, the better you will feel and the quicker you will accept yourself.

It is so easy to keep on comparing yourself to others and always feel you are not good enough.

Here are a few tips on how you can stop doing that.

Unfortunately there are a lot of bullies out in this world that do not care if they hurt other people's feeling and they may tease you about certain aspects of yourself, but remember the following quote from Eleanor Roosevelt

"Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent."
Simple: Nobody can make you feel as if you are not as good as other people, unless you let them.
What it means: It is your choice whether to allow other people to make you feel bad about what you do

Do not give your power away to other people in allowing them to play with your mind and later start believing them and only seeing what they do.

Look at yourself and know that you are a wonderful creation ....

For interest sake you can take the quiz to see how good or bad your self-esteem is.
