The man who thought he was perfect - Children's story with a lesson

In a far away land there lived a man called Abu Ahmad.

He was quite a strange little man and people found him very funny and entertaining.

Abu always told everybody that wanted to listen, and even those who did not want to listen, that he never makes a mistake and that nobody is as clever as he is and he is better than anybody else in town.

The people just walked past him and laughed and said sarcastically "Yes Abu you are just perfect.

Nobody believed this, because they knew that everybody is different and we all make mistakes, but they did not feel like arguing with Abu since he only believed himself in any case.

One day Abu went into town to go and buy some extra donkeys that could work for him.

He was quite a wealthy man and decided that he will buy ten donkeys.

After he paid for the donkeys, he got on the one in front and rode away while the rest of the donkeys followed him.

A little way further he met up with his friend, Moham and they decided to travel the rest of the distance to Abu's house together, so that he will have somebody to talk to and help keep a look out that all ten donkeys make it home safely.

After a while Abu said to Moham, "Are all the donkeys here?"

"Yes I have just counted them and all ten are here."

Abu did not believe Moham and since Abu only believed himself, he decided to count for himself.  He counted, then counted again, but each time he just counted up to 9 donkeys.

"No Moham, you are making a mistake, we have lost one of the donkeys!!"

Moham counted again and told Abu that all ten the donkeys were there.

Again Abu counted and again he only counted 9 donkeys.  He was now really cross with Moham who was making a mistake counting.  Abu jumped off his donkey.

"I will go and search for the missing one myself!" he shouted.

He looked behind the bushes and the trees but did not see any donkey that have wandered off.

When he got back to where Moham and the donkeys were standing, he started counting again and this time he counted ten donkeys.

"O, I guess the missing one returned while I was searching for it."

Moham wanted to tell Abu that he was standing there the whole time and there was no donkey that came back - it was still the same ones they started with, but Abu did not even wanted to listen, just mumbling "Moham you must really stop making mistakes and start counting correctly."

A little way further Abu got a bit worried that they have maybe lost a donkey or two and counted them again.

And what do you know!! He counted only 9 donkeys!! Again...

He was really cross now and blamed Moham that he was the one loosing the donkey the whole time.  Moham just counted again and said "There are ten donkeys."

Abu was so cross now he started shouting, "If you cannot count I will count out loud that you will see there are only 9 of them."

"One...two...three...four...five...six...seven...eight...nine.... you see?  YOU SEE??" he shouted at the top of his voice.

Moham started laughing and laughing.

Abu got more and more cross because he did not find it funny at all and did not understand how Moham could think it was funny.

When Moham stopped laughing he slowly said, "Abu, what about the donkey you are riding on?  Did you count him? You ride on one plus the nine others equals ten."

Abu felt very shy when he realised that he was wrong and was shouting at his friend for no reason.

"I am so sorry Moham, I made a mistake."

"That is fine Abu, nobody is perfect, we all make mistakes."

That day Abu learned that it is fine to make mistakes, that is how we learn, but we can only learn if we admit it and next time try to do better.

He also learned that we cannot always think we are better than somebody else and treat them badly.

Abu never again told people that he knows everything and are better than them.
