Charlie the centipede - Story for kids

in #steemiteducation5 years ago (edited)

Charlie is not a boy.  Charlie is not a dog.  Charlie is a worm.  But not just any worm, Charlie is a centipede.

Do you know what is a centipede? It is a worm like creature with a lot of legs.... really a lot.

Charlie is the teacher's pet and she uses him when she teaches the little ones to learn to count.  They have to count all his legs every day.

Charlie loves the kids and they love him and they take him outside to play with them during break time.

One day all the kids decided to play some rugby.  The red team against the blue team.  Charlie was chosen for the red team and he was very excited.

During the first half of the game the blue team was scoring all the points by getting a try and kicking the ball through the post and taking all the tackles.

The red team wanted to give up, because they were so far behind, but then everything changed in the second half.

"Who made that great tackle?"  "Who scored a try?"  "Who is running so fast with the ball?  "Who is helping us to win?" the red team started asking.  Every time a little voice answered "I was me.  This is so much fun."

The children first did not know who was answering but then they saw Charlie the centipede all happy and running as fast as all his little legs could carry him, making tackles and scoring tries.

They were so impressed with Charlie by the end of the game, they lifted him up high in the sky and chanted "We won, we won, Charlie Charlie you're the one".

Everybody was so happy but then one little boy looked at Charlie and asked with a frown "But Charlie why did you not help us during the first half as well?"

Charlie smiled and looked a bit shy while answering "I was busy putting on my shoes."

This is just a silly little story on a centipede.  We all know they cannot play rugby or speak, but they really do have many legs.

Lets take a look at a real centipede and answer some questions
