Minnow Support: Two Tag Tips to Finding YOUR Content and YOUR Community

Finding Interesting Content: Tips On Steemit Tags

Hello Fellow Steemians! I joined the Steemit community just over a month ago and it has truly been a thrilling, exciting journey. However, starting out was tough and one of the biggest challenges I faced early on was trying to figure out what to read, where to read it and how to get my content read.

If you’re like me and constantly wondering how to find content that is relevant, interesting and that leads to genuine connection with other Steemians (not just upvote beggars), here are a couple tips that helped me early on and that I hope get you closer to the posts and folks most relatable to you.

How to Search the Trending Tags

It doesn’t take long to realize that the Trending list on the Steemit homepage does not include a wide range of topics, so it takes intentional effort to find content that is more specific to your interests. So start with a brainstorm: name your hobby and think of allllllll buzzwords related to that topic. Next, to find a topic that is not listed under Trending, type the following into your search engine and GO!

Be Specific In Your Tag Search

Contrary to instinct, becoming extremely narrow and specific in your tag search will help you find the handful of others share your niche interests. Alternative buzzwords gives indication Steemians that think like you. Consider that for a moment: searching a tag like #photography is so massively broad, but if you hold a hyper interest in capturing the night sky, you will find only 5 other enthusiast (a.k.a. your kindred spirits) under steemit.com/trending/astrophotography.

For instance, I am surprised to find that #sexuality is not a major trending tag here on Steemit, but I am happy to find what I am looking for under tags like #gender and #lgbt.

By finding those 5 Steemians bold enough to take an obscure tag and run with it, you immediately find a group with a common bond. This also give way to opportunity help another Steemian move their content to a tag that would be more beneficial (i.e., #celiac would thrive better under #glutenfree).

So don’t fear searching everything you love under the sun or using a tag or two on your own post for your niche interest. I hope your find these tips helpful!
