DISABILITY IN A CLASS ROOM (HOMEWORK)

Children with disabilities do not want to feel that they are any different from other children.

It is so important that there must be the feeling that everyone in the class is the same. 

If you start a new year with a child with a disability please send this child to do something for you in the office or to another teacher, so you can get the child out of the class. 

He must not realise why, but you must talk to all the children in the class and explain to them that they have to treat him just the same as all the other children in the class.

You do get children who will be bullies and these are the ones you have to really watch. 

They have a way of getting away with things in their own way and you must make sure that this does not happen to this child.

It also depends on the disability that the child has, it can be that he only has one arm or is in a wheelchair. 

It will not affect his brain because children who have bad learning problems never end up in a school for normal children so it will be something else that is wrong with him. 

Make sure that this child has a friend that is always by his or her side to help if it is possible

Ask one of the children in the class who would like to have this honour. 

But as I said this child must not feel any different from other children. There are so many children, who have some or other problem, but I am now thinking of Natalie du Toit who lost her leg and she has the second most gold medals from Olympic swimming in the world. 

That is why I say they might have wonderful strong personalities and must have a lot of drive as they do have some little bit of a disadvantage to other children and had to overcome them. 

It is sometimes very nice to have such a child because this can help you teach other children how much they have to be thankful for.

Children are inclined to accept it is a right to be normal, and once you have a child in your class that has a disability, you can really help the rest of the class to look at life differently. 

It can be such a good thing for children to learn at a young age and it might just change their perspective on life for the rest of their lives.
