The Lungs Of The Earth!
We all know that trees provide oxygen for us to breathe in but what else do they do for us and the environment? I must admit that I've never ever really given it much thought until a few months ago.
Trees provide so much more than just oxygen for us. Taking a walk after a very long and stressful day in an area with trees can help with the following:
- Reduce stress
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Blood pressure
- Relax you
Trees also provide shelter for a large number of animals, as well as provide a place for animals to make nests.
A lot of animals rely on trees for food too.
Trees provide amazing shade for those blazing hot days! Best of all are those days when its extremely hot and you decide to have a picnic under a tree. Which is honestly heaven on earth!
There are quite a few trees that are medicinal. In South Africa we not only have the moringa tree but we also have the pepperbark tree. The moringa tree treats diarrhea, and also spleen and liver problems and the pepperbark tree helps clear sinuses. Below are a few more medicinal trees:
The willow tree - If used as tea can treat headaches, fever, diarrhea, muscle inflammation and pain, and also arthritic pain.
Moutain Holly - Treats fever, jaundice, diarrhea, flu, colds, ulcers, and coughing.
Birch tree - Using different parts of the tree can help with people that have psoriasis, gout, eczema and mouth sores. Birch water can prevent you from getting dandruff while also strengthening hair roots and so much more!
Hawthorne - Using the leaves of this tree can cause a drop in blood pressure.
Trees are able to absorb pollutants through their leaves and filter contaminants in the air. 
What about those days when it rains a little too much and there are trees around? Having trees around when it rains a lot and starts to flood a bit can really help reduce flooding and soil erosion. This is because they can hold vast amounts of water and suck water deeper underground.
Trees not only do all that but you can tell which season it is from just looking at them.
