Back To School After Summer Vacation

in #steemiteducation6 years ago (edited)

In some places around world, children are now coming back to school. Many of them are about to begin the new school year. So, this is a moment of expectation for many students; even for those who remain in the same school with the same friends can't help asking themselves what's going to bring.

The impact can be like a cultural shock, but naturally, everything is linked to how strong (emotionally) each student is. New teachers and probably new classmates are coming. So students can begin carefully as if they were tasting the terrain after being absent for years.

Of course, this is just a matter of adaptation. However, there are some aspects that students could struggle with, and teachers' help will surely come in handy.

New grade, new challenge

The tasks and assignments will be more demanding. This especially happens when children jump from elementary to high school.

Just remember how it was for you and your friends, and imagine as a teacher right now, how is it for your students? And yes, it is just a matter of putting yourself in your pupils' shoes, which is something some of us forget.

So, the best approach is to let students take their own time. Eliminate the premise of "adapt fast or die." This is neither a war nor a competition though it is many times seen like that due to the stubborn pressure of getting good grades only.

The fear of change

When a person is accustomed to something, he or she will have a hard time to embrace another thing... no because we don't want to rather because we feel safe in the current state. It's a natural feeling, sticking to the environment we already know of. It's that sensation that we are aware of and quite sure about what's to expect.

And all that changes when we move out. However, it is part of our growing. Students might feel kind of restrained at the beginning. And though teachers must encourage them, they have to do it in way that inspire confidence.

They also need to start slow. If the class you manage is small, you will have a wide window to dedicate more time on those who are having this adaptation problem... just remember one thing. They are starting a new year, possibly with harder challenges. So, proceed accordingly the situation.

On the teachers' side

I couldn't close this entry without taking into account the teachers presence. They all dedicate their life to educate, and when summer comes, it is the deserved vacation after committing for a lot of months every year in such noble cause.

So, they also need to start slow for their own sake even if they have already recharged their batteries because there are usually a lot of administrative work to do. And obviously, that's not appealing for any teacher whose true calling is educate.

Anyways, teachers also receive new students whom they must know. They have to prepare all the planning, going to meetings and do other stuff, which in fact can be tiring... because the body is still in the relaxing or recharging mode.

The energy that a teacher usex throughout the year is huge. And all this energy is consumed by his or her students. Thus, it is imperative, as it happens with students, that teachers take their time to re-adapt themselves to what they love to do.
