What You Love Vs What You Gotta Do

Regularly, we have to carry out activities that we don't want. We have obligations that resulting from the decision we have made. It happens to all of us in every aspect of our lives. So, it's up to us to keep things that way, or make a huge turn.

Now, one of things that I've a seen a lot is how people choose a path, especially after high school. That's the time when get advises from all angles, trying to encourage us toward one option. We hear all kind of things. There are those who portrait hard realities and others who push us to follow our heart. Here's when this internal battle begins.

The result will depend on how we are able to break down all the implications manifested while analyzing our life. Put simply, we will choose according to our level of comprehension which derives from our own perceptions and personal experiences.

Why do we keep doing what we don't love?

This is similar to the question that why people surround themselves around those who hurt them. The core of the problem lies in the mindset. People keep doing what they don't love because they strongly think that it is the way that it should be.

They think that it's their destiny. It's okay if you start doing something that you don't want. But as you goes on, you need to rebel yourself against your current condition and try to forge yourself a new path.

Another point that keeps people in the same status quo is fear. The fear of failure... to think that you're not good enough. To see that if within your family there's no-one who has ever dared to break the chain, you cannot do it too.

But that's just the same fear looming... and we try to find excuses to support that fear; even going to the extend to diminish other people to find justification for our situation.

Sense of belonging

People always want to fit in any group. It's a human condition. And most of us try to appeal to others by doing what others do because we know that they are going to look for similar traits in us.

And if they don't find any significant similitude, we know in advance that they will reject us. That's the moment when some people feel depressed. But imagine if we do our best to portrait an appearance that is not our real self in order to please others. That's also depressing.... And we're doing it not because we want it rather because our necessity to fit it.

We have to admit that each person has different tastes, likes, goals and priorities. So, we must not sacrifice our true nature only to please. I understand that some people don't dare to act differently compared to others because they don't want to be categorized as failures or something worst.

In one of my previous posts, @johnskotts left a comment about Walt Disney who said that his brother was more successful than him because he had an average suburb life with his while Walt didn't have much time for his own. I replied that all depends on priorities, which derives from our desires. Thus, we should not force ourselves into fitting in.

The hard truth

So, whatever we decide to do, the most important thing is that do it for love. If we maintain doing things that we don't like, at the end of our days we'll regret it.

And let me tell you this: there's no more piercing pain that regret. It hurts much more than any physical wound. And you know why? Simple, because you cannot longer go back in time.

Thus, this feeling stays with you, eating your heart so to speak. You wish to have had the courage to, at least, try.... because not matter the end result., what matters is not to follow the herb and do only what they do.

I really loved your post @edave. I have believed these things for years and am really grateful that even though I felt I was going against the grain, I followed my heart anyway.

I just posted my interview with @larrymorrison. I don't mean to advertise it on your page, but feel you will be interested in it. Grateful to share similar view with you.

Hi @everlove, thanks for taking the time to read the post. And as you imply, following your heart no matter the end result is the only thing we have to grasp a little happiness. Sadly, very few people do it!
