Fases de la luna.
The space is undoubtedly a fascinating place, full of mysteries, and that captures the imagination of children. It is very entertaining when through computer applications we make what is called a space trip through our celestial neighborhood, to know the planets and the distance that is from our house, the earth is one of the themes that most traps children. However, in order to explain them we must have some knowledge and make it entertaining so that they learn and find the information fun and useful.
El espacio sin duda es un lugar fascinante, lleno de misterios, y que atrapa la imaginación de los niños. Es muy entretenido cuando a través de aplicaciones informáticas realizamos lo que se llama un viaje espacial por nuestro vecindario celeste, conocer los planetas y la distancia que está de nuestra casa, la tierra es uno de los temas que más atrapa a los niños. Sin embargo para poder explicarles debemos tener cierto conocimiento y hacerlo entretenido para que ellos aprendan y les resulte divertida y útil la información.
We will focus on explaining a little about our natural satellite that is the moon, first of all it is good to have some data about it.
Nos enfocaremos en explicar un poco sobre nuestro satélite natural que es la luna, antes que nada es bueno tener unos datos sobre ella.
The moon is 384,400 KM away from the earth, although we can see it from the earth every night, sometimes as close as if we could touch it, a rocket ride to it would last three days.
The moon fulfills some cycles that represent the degree of illumination that this satellite has while it moves around our planet. This cycle lasts 29 days, and is known as the lunar cycle. Y entre ciclo y ciclo vemos cómo va cambiando su forma, desde una media naranja por así decirlo, hasta la luna más grande como si aumentara su tamaño.

Un dato curioso, es que las mareas, o los ciclos de profundidad de los ríos están asociados con el cambio de los ciclos lunares, es decir, aunque expresado en kilómetros la distancia de la tierra a la luna es muy grande, en medidas astronómicas es una distancia relativamente pequeña, recordemos que los planetas y satélites naturales son tan grandes que estas distancias vistas desde un punto de vista planetaria, sería como si fuera un vecindario y estuvieras viendo la casa de tu vecino desde tu ventana.
Although the distance seems large, the gravity exerted by the moon on the earth affects the movement of the waves of the sea and up to its depth, it is scientifically proven that the floods are closely related to the changes of the lunar phases.
Aunque la distancia parece grande, la gravedad que ejerce la luna sobre la tierra afecta el movimiento de las olas del mar y hasta su profundidad, está científicamente probado que las inundaciones están estrechamente relacionadas con los cambios de las fases lunares.
The moon lives in a continuous cycle that is renewed every 29 days, these cycles explained in simple words would be the following:

- New moon:In this cycle the moon takes its smallest size, it darkens, it seems as if it has disappeared from the sky, but it is not like that, it is there, only that it occupies a place between the earth and the sun, this position prevents that it illuminates, that's why it seems almost imperceptible and in some cases it is lost with the color of the night.
Luna nueva: En este ciclo la luna toma su tamaño más diminuto, se obscurece, pareciera como si hubiese desaparecido del cielo, pero no es así, ella se encuentra allí, solo que ocupa un lugar entre la tierra y el sol, esta posición impide que se ilumine, por eso es que parece casi imperceptible y en algunos casos se pierde con el color de la noche.
- Crescent moon: This is the second state of the moon, in this part of the cycle the moon begins to light up, it is when it begins to appear on one side of the earth and the sun's rays begin to touch it, it is called crescent, because it seems that it grows or looks out of the side of the sky.
Luna creciente: Este viene siendo el segundo estado de la luna, en esta parte del ciclo la luna comienza a iluminarse, es cuando comienza a asomarse por un costado de la tierra y los rayos del sol empiezan a tocarla, se le llama creciente, porque pareciera que crece o se asoma por un costado del cielo.
- Fourth crescent: This is the most characteristic phase of the moon, by which most of us recognize it, because it takes the form of a letter "C" or a cut melon, also commonly called "Half Moon" .
Cuarto creciente: Esta es la fase más característica de la luna, por la que la mayoría de nosotros la reconocemos, por que adopta la forma de una letra “C” o de un corte de melón, también comúnmente se le llama “Media luna”.
- Full moon: in this stage, the moon has come completely out of the shadow between the earth and the sun, is at its highest point and can be seen in its full form.
This phase of the moon is associated with popular legends, cinema and television popularized by associating the fictional myth of the werewolf, which appears every full moon.
Luna llena: en esta etapa, la luna ha salido completamente de la sombra entre la tierra y el sol, está en su punto más alto y se puede ver en su forma completa.

- Fourth waning: It is this phase the moon begins to hide again between the earth and the sun, it is almost the same as the crescent, only that on the opposite side, the moon is entering position again between the earth and the sun so it receives little illumination, and it gradually decreases until it turns into a black moon, or new moon, which adopts the color of the night sky, to start a cycle of 29 days again.
Cuarto menguante: Es esta fase la luna empieza a esconderse nuevamente entre la tierra y el sol, es casi igual que el cuarto creciente, solo que del lado contrario, la luna va entrando en posición nuevamente entre la tierra y el sol por lo que recibe poca iluminación, y va reduciendo gradualmente hasta que vuelve a tornarse en luna negra, o luna nueva, que adopta el color del cielo de la noche, para volver a empezar un ciclo de 29 días.

Actividades para niños.
Explaining the theory without some fun activities for children would be insufficient, remember that children are very visual, so it is useful and advisable to use some resources to explain the phases of the moon.
One of these resources, is using plasticine, circles can be made, and cut them to exemplify the solar illumination, for example, the full moon is a complete circle, and the fourth quarter, the moon is cut in half.
The use of the drawings is also highly advisable, you can draw each phase of the moon using drawings of the earth and the sun too, to give examples of where the moon is in each phase.
Explicar la teoría sin algunas actividades divertidas para los niños sería insuficiente, recordemos que los niños son muy visuales, por lo que es útil y aconsejable utilizar algunos recursos para explicar las fases de la luna.
Uno de estos recursos, es utilizando plastilina, pueden hacerse círculos, e irlos cortando para ejemplificar la iluminación solar, por ejemplo, la luna llena es un circulo completo, y el cuarto menguante, la luna se corta a la mitad.
El uso de los dibujos también es altamente aconsejable, se pueden dibujar cada fase de la luna utilizando dibujos de la tierra y el sol también, para dar ejemplos sobre en qué posición esta la luna en cada fase.
