Bulletproof to manipulation

in #steemiteducation5 years ago (edited)

We live in a world where many people around us may be concerned about their benefits.

There are also many honest and helpful people who are always being manipulated because of their good heart.

This can happen to our children and students in school.

Teaching our students and children to raise their awareness of manipulation can help them to become bulletproof to them.

This short article intends to raise the awareness of how some may try to manipulate others.

Try to be hero

Adults and children often may want to speak up for others.

We may often hear or see many who support us with their words behind the scene but they would never come forward to support us physically.

They are glad that we speak up but they do not want to get involved since they are afraid of getting into trouble.

After speaking up for others, many may tell us that they agree with us but none would support us physically.

When we try to be hero for others, we may end up becoming the black sheep of the school or company.

Our students and children in school also face the same situation with their friends when they speak up for their friends to the teacher.

Their good intention becomes defiant in the eyes of their teacher.

As parents, we must first understand the whole situation from our child before jumping into conclusion.

Adults and children with a heart for justice, we must know how to help prudently as well as when to help so that we do not act irrationally leading to negative impact to our own reputation.

Instigating by mocking

I believe this happens often to our students.

They may often face peers who try to instigate them to do the wrong things by mocking them.

It can be as simple as calling them coward or being a chicken without guts.

There are also those who may use words like sissy, crybaby, nerdy and many more nasty words.

All these words aim to attack the ego and pride of one’s self-esteem leading to impulsive actions of many to prove that they are not what they are teasing them of.

Our students, who end up stealing, smoking and doing many other wrongdoings, are manipulated and later on may face unwanted consequences.

As parents and teachers, we must alert them what are the possible ways that others may instigate them through teasing or mocking.

They must not be affected and must stay logical regardless of what they may say.

The greatest resistant is to ignore them and walk away. They should not listen to what others may say.

Using a carrot

Children and adults can face situation when those manipulators may tempt us with benefits when we do what they say.

Children can be tempted by candies, toys or other stuffs while adults may be attracted mainly by financial benefits.

There can be many different types of carrots trying to get the donkey to move but we must know the tactics of these manipulators and also advise our children not to be tempted by short-term gain.

Some children may get kidnapped just because the kidnappers tempt them with some sweets.

With this awareness, our children can avoid such manipulation for short-term gain that leads to terrible situations.

Threats

There are also some who use threats as manipulation.

They may have discovered secrets or they may threaten to beat up the victims if they do not comply to them.

In simple, these people use fear through different types of threats.

Our children may suffer secretly and they can only get out of this by facing these threats bravely.

Regardless of the threats, they must face them and seek for help when they need to.

By chatting with our children about all these possible threats, we are also getting them mentally prepared if it ever happens to them.

In conclusion

There are so many ways how others may try to manipulate.

By raising this awareness of different possibilities, our children can be mentally prepared how to deal with them.

Very often, they must know that manipulators often work on their ego, pride or fear.

We do hope to provide the guidance through productive discussions whenever we can with our children.
