Man’s negative impact to nature

in #steemiteducation6 years ago (edited)

On Saturday morning, I brought my son to the park as usual.

I noticed that there was a signage near the pond to warn visitors that no fishing is allowed.

The above photograph was taken by @fun2learn.

This inspired me to write this short article about the impact of man to nature to raise some awareness.

Overfishing

Food sources such as fish from the sea can be depleted as a result of overfishing.

Overfishing happens when the number of fishes being caught is not able to be replaced by the number of fishes reproduced.

Without restriction and measures, this can cause the decrease of fishes over time resulting endangerment or extinction of certain kinds of fishes.

A good example is the decrease in the number of sharks because of overhunting for their fins.

We need food but we should avoid overfishing at all cost.

Deforestation

Man cut down trees in forests to gain more land for farming and other developments.

We also use the wood to make furniture and different products.

The fact that Science has taught us that plants take in carbon dioxide and gives out oxygen during photosynthesis.

With lesser trees, the quality of air decreases and more carbon dioxide is trapped leading to global warming.

With fewer trees, there may be lesser water vapour resulting less clouds formed leading to reduce of rain for plantation.

Initiatives like reforestation is carried out to reduce the negative effects of deforestation.

On one hand, we are destroying the nature while on the other hand we are trying to restore it.

I guess we can save cost if we ensure proper care on how we can preserve our nature in the first place.

Pollution

We have enjoyed all the benefits of products made from factories but smoke that contains pollutants are given off into the air in the process of manufacturing.

Our quality of air is certainly being affected due to modernisation.

Factory waste can also pollute our water when we do not monitor it leading to water being unsafe to be used and the endangerment of living things in the water.

Our waste can also cause land pollution when not properly disposed and removed.

Some materials that we use can take ages to break down leading to accumulation of pollutants.

In conclusion

In schools, our students from age of 11 years onward are taught about the impact of man to its environment to ensure the future generations are well educated and make the effort to preserve what we have.

It is never too late to start an initiative to preserve our nature and environment.

I hope this short article has led to some thoughts and reflections.
