Recently, there was an incident between a taxi driver and a young lady passenger that went viral.

The dispute had caused many reactions and many had taken actions against the young lady.

During peak hours, there are certain locations on the road would have extra charges.

The lady requested to avoid those locations.

The taxi driver asked her to direct the way if she knew how to avoid those road entrance fee called ERP.

The video below went viral.

As there was a dispute, the taxi driver decided that they should head to the police station to settle it.

The lady insisted on going to a police station near town area which was probably where she was heading to.

The taxi driver wanted to go to the nearby police station to settle it quickly.

The lady accused the driver for kidnapping her and locking the car door.

The driver indicated that the car had auto-locked function.

The lady even screamed as though she was being kidnapped.

The issue

When the video went online, it angered many people and they sided the driver since he did not over-react throughout the whole incident but he wanted to settle it peacefully at the police station.

The whole incident was so popular that even my students knew about it.

There were people who went online to search out the information of the lady as well as her photograph.

If you search on youtube, there are many who acted out the whole incident as a comedy.

Since it was so popular, some may want to use this to get themselves popular online through their acting.

There are also those who do all sorts of things to humiliate the lady.

They wanted the lady to apologise to the driver.

This is not the first when something injustice causing many online citizens to go against the wrongdoers.

Is this the right way of doing things?

I understand that these people, who were being targeted, had done things that we do not agree but the use of internet to humiliate them can really go out of hand.

Those nasty people would have felt the impact when they walked out the street since everyone would have known their faces.

Online citizens have taken things into their hands and punished these people using the power of internet.

I do agree that the actions they have taken would have raised awareness and alert others not to do such things but it look like cyberbully for those wrongdoers.

There are so many commenters online now and the below is only one of them.

I am not going to judge the driver or the lady but this is an issue that everyone can have their own opinions.

My simple question to ponder about is whether this is the right way that we should handle injustice.

Influence to our young children

I was showed by my 12-year-old student of a remix using the voices of the video to make a rap from the incident.

I can see lots of creativity in this rap but the influence on our young children can be negative.

They took it as a joke and I even heard teenagers imitating certain sentences as a common joke.

As adults, I am concerned whether we are setting good examples in this modern society where our children can be easily influenced to take cyberbully as the right way of handling issues.

In conclusion

As parents and educators, I would sure like to hear your comment or opinion about this current trend that has happened very frequently whenever online citizens find injustice that they cannot tolerate.

We are definitely not the judge or police so we definitely do not have the power to decide who should be punished.

Nevertheless, the fact that all these can influence our children especially when their parents are into all these and they chat about these things too.

We must consider the values that we want to nurture in our children in a world surrounded with rich information that can be negative or positive.
