A Lonely Rhino (An Original Children's Story)

Once upon a time, before our ancestors had discovered fire, there was a large rhinoceros who lived by the river near the great forest. His name was Lun. He was so huge, that all the other animals were afraid of him.

Lun had lived on his own since his mother and father had died. Everyday, he would wander around the forest in hopes that he could find a friend, but whenever her tried to approach them, they all ran away. Lun didn't know what was wrong, so he always felt sad and lonely.

Back then, our ancestors still had to hunt for food. They would go to the forest and take whatever they think could be eaten -- barks, herbs, leaves, fruits, and even animals. That's why whenever a human being stepped into the forest, the animals would have to stop whatever they're doing just to hide. But not everyone was lucky.

When the dry season came, it affected almost every plant in the forest. The leaves had withered and the trees couldn't bear any fruit, so the humans and animals barely had anything to eat. The humans had no choice but to hunt wild animals in order to survive.

Every creature in the forest realized what was going to happen, and they also knew that they had to leave their home. And whilst they knew a place where they could go, it was impossible for them to get there safely.

But one day, the humans marched into the forest in their desperate search for food. Some animals were caught, while some managed to run towards the river. Our hungry ancestors chased them for hours, until they came across a very large animal who intentionally stood in their way.

It was the first time that they have seen Lun, and never had they ever imagined that a creature as huge as he was could exist. They all screamed and ran back to their caves, leaving all of the creatures that they have caught. The animals all thanked Lun for saving their lives, and the rhinoceros couldn't be happier. At last, he had friends! He invited his new friends to come with him to the other side of the river so they could live far enough for the humans not to find them.

"B-but, we couldn't cross the river. It's too deep," one of the animals said. Lun laughed and replied, "Don't be silly, leave it to me. Come."

So everyone followed their huge friend towards the river. Lun jumped into the water that barely reached his back. The others were all amazed and soon they started crossing the rhino's back to reach the other side.

Everyone reached their new home safely, thanks to Lun. Since then, the rhinoceros swore to protect everyone, and the other animals swore to do the same to him. Lun was never alone again, and he lived happily with his friends until the end of his days.
