Comparing Fractions using a Benchmark

Once kids got the concept of equivalent fractions, next comes comparing fractions. The best approach to compare two or more fractions is to use a benchmark. Benchmark means we can use a number line showing basic fractions on it. 

The knowledge of halves, thirds, quarters (fourths), sixths, eighths and twelfths is very crucial to learn this key skill very well.  Below is an introductory practice sheet to jump start the concept;

In comparison we compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators. For e.g., by creating common denominators or numerators, or by comparing to a benchmark fraction such as 1/2.
