SUBTRACTING MIXED NUMBERS

While teaching maths I always found that children found it difficult to subtract mixed numbers. In this video they really make it so easy.

But it is important to remember that subtraction mixed numbers does not work the same as adding mixed numbers.

We cannot just change the numbers like in adding and you cannot subtract a bigger number from a smaller number.

It is very important to remember to go and borrow from the whole number.

You must just never forget that the number you borrowed from will be one less now.

When you put all these underneath each other it will make life so much easier for you to remember how as they all will be in a line and that will make life so much easier to understand.

There is definitely a difference between adding and subtracting mixed numbers and you must really make a point of understanding this as it is really easy, but you must stick to the rules.

Maths has its own little problems, but following the rules will make life so much easier.
