HONEYCOMB STINGRAYS ARE SO INTERESTING

Today I am writing about the new honeycomb stingray at the two oceans aquarium, it is such a beautiful animal.

The honeycomb stingray has different names in different parts of the world.  Here in South Africa they are known as honeycomb stingrays.

As stingrays can be very harmful to humans this one is not harmful although it has a venomous whip tail at the base of its tail.

Only a few thousand humans are injured by them each year.

It could be that they may have stepped on one and they are actually not that many left.

Their habitats are being destroyed.

Stingrays are not supposed to kill humans the few people who have died was absolutely freak accidents.

Normally people only have foot injuries from stepping on them as they are always lying at the bottom of the sand.

The honeycomb stingray has the ability to detect predators very well, and that is why there are other sea creatures who stay near to them so that they make use of the way the honeycomb stingray can detect predators.

Although they are predators they only eat crab small fish and octopus. They live very near to the bottom of the water and swim very near to the sand.

They are only found in shallow water that is why people can step on them.

It has a pointed snout and its tail is very long.

Very little is known about the honeycomb stingray but they are mostly found in tropical indo pacific.

They mostly lie still on the bottom of the ocean and they can become over 1.3 metres across and has a very long tail.

It is beautiful for us to watch them swim as they stay low on the ground. I am putting a video in here to show how they swim as I thought it is so lovely watching.

People are over fishing, and for this reason they are really dying out, which is very sad.

The adults have dark rings on them that present like a honeycomb as mentioned before not much is known about them as different places call them different names.

The two oceans aquarium has one that you can really go and look at as it is a beautiful animal and they are not found in our waters.
