Hello steemians of @Steemiteducation greetings to you all!

This is a happy moment that now parents in Ghana are having. The pass system of education has passed and gone. In those days when parents pay all forms of levies for their wards in Basic Schools; from Nursery School to Junior High School, way back from 1990s to 2016.

The excitement the of parents now cannot be measured, since government have instituted a policy that that is going to take away parents burden of paying any forms of moneys/levies in Basic Schools being: Extra classes, parent-teacher association dues, printing fees and any money that comes from the parents.

When this issue came up it took parents and teachers by a surprise since just last two years that the government started "Free payment of fees" by the Senior High Schools. So, both parents and teachers were wondering how the government is going to get resources to finance both the Basic Schools and the Second Cycle Schools. But, as we always say, Ghana is blessed with natural resources that God has planted on this Earth. Not long ago that oil was discovered at Cape three-point on the coast Near Sekondi-Takoradi, it is this area that the government has drawn his attention to use the generated income from that area to support education.

The immediate challenge that all teachers and parents were debating on is how to print examination questions for the students in Basic Schools, looking at the number of students in Basic Schools in Ghana. It was getting to the later part of the term no information were reaching the directors of Ghana Education Service about how to pre-finance the printing of the questions for the students, meanwhile, they have been warned never to collect any money from the parents. Lo and behold, about two weeks to the end of the term, government released funds to all Ghana Education Service at the District level to print the Examination questions. The Directors at the District Education Service quickly released the funds for Examination coordinators for the printing of the questions, whereby by questions were printed and distributed smoothly for the successful conduction of Examinations for Basic Schools in Ghana.

Parents therefore have become relieved from paying fees for their wards from Basic Schools to Second Cycle Schools, if they would even pay something then it may be their miscellaneous items for their personal use. Parents are happy praying that this relieve of burden should continue forever. In some years past some parents were paying huge amount of admission fees of closely to Ghc2000, which was a burden to an ordinary farmer or a seller at the market to sponsor his or her ward in the Second Cycle Schools. Now, it vivid that about 40% burden have been relieved from the parents, since the second greatest cost for the parents are catering for their children in School, especially when they cross Basic School level.

Many thanks to the incumbent government of Ghana and his Leaders for this powerful initiative to cut down the cost of Education for the parents. I think this is in the right direction to go with it if we will give the government our maximum support and attention, there are more development to come in the educational sector. Let us watch out in the next update that I bring to your notice. I am @oppongk reporting from Ghana.
