They Passed Through Here (96)

in #steemitschoolpoetry6 years ago (edited)

They built and fought until they died.
They passed through here and left their trace.
They're history, they're legacy
They're a truth we needed to embrace.
They're part of our identity,
But they do not determine
Who we are and what we do.
Their life story was a sign
That people can change the world,
And just like they could do their part,
So can we if we chose
To stop or finish what they started.

Is that the military port of Carthage? :)

These are the Aghlabid Basins in Kairouan.
Kairouan is the first muslim town(and then capital) in north africa.

Indeed the path they once trod we can tread a learn lessons for our times.

Plenty of lessons yes

This piece reads as a religious one to me, namely, talking about great prophets of the past who "fought until they died" for their beliefs and made this world as it is now. We know about them, they inspire us, although, they can't lead us without us wanting them to, we should make efforts as well!

You got it right Katyousha ;)
Except for the religious part, although "they" (the first Muslims who came to Tunisia) are pretty much related to our religion, I was trying to see them as bringers of a new Regime or a new kind of civilization.
