RE: I Caught Myself on Fire While Building a Tractor - posted for Steemmakers

in #steemmakers6 years ago

I've pulled apart a few tires at home, but nothing bigger than a 12 inch trailer tire. That was plenty enough work for me. Even a 12 inch tire is a pain in the butt to do with hand tools. I like your home made bead breaker, that sure would have been handy when I was taking those tires off the rims!
I've had a torch kit for many years, but I normally just use propane when I'm doing stuff with it. It doesn't develop enough heat with propane to do decent welding, but it's enough for brazing. I was building weird bicycles a few years ago and brazing is good enough for that. I bought a cutting tip for the torch that's made specifically for cutting with propane, that helped a lot, the other tip wouldn't get the metal hot enough.
And , yes, I have caught myself on fire once or twice...LOL
I would have to find a different way to do a rear axle because I have no way to shorten a car axle had have it come out usable.

Sort:

The way I did the axles the first time didn't work very well. There is more torque on them than you would think.

Sometimes I'm better at doing things twice than doing them right.

Did you post anything about the bicycles? I've always wanted to make a recumbent hybrid electric bike.

I haven't posted anything on steemit about building the bicycles. That was several years ago, and they didn't turn out very well. I didn't have any plans, I was just designing as I went.
