Why I will buy Steem Monsters Alpha Packs right now

This is going to be a short post, as the message should be simple to explain and easy to digest.

Steem Monsters has today announced an update to the way cards are distributed, which should be very positive for the value of Alpha edition cards.

Once Alpha has ended and they will only be selling Beta cards, they will lower the XP value you get per card. They have not said by how much they will lower the XP, but let's assume that the new cards will get 25% lower XP per card. This means, that you effectively get 25% less utility value per card if you want to use the cards for leveling. This would mean that you need to buy 33% more cards to get the same XP effect.

This means that the Alpha cards will have double positive effect:

1. They should have a higher collectors value
2. They have a higher utility value

For me this makes it quite clear that if you plan on buying more packs or cards on the secondary market you are better off if you do this now as long as the Alpha edition is still available.

At the moment, there is 87,425 packs left in the Alpha edition. I will for sure make sure to get some more and I will also continue to buy cards on the market as long as they are available - keep in mind, that the current arbitrage relationship, which keeps the price potential for the card market as a whole limited will end also with the end of the Alph edition.
