Confusing information from Steemworld and FrontEnds //

in #steempeak5 years ago (edited)

Alright, lets talk about some weird stuff ive been seeing on the Steem frontends and the best analytics tool we have on this blockchain, "Steemworld". (If you havent already go vote for @steemchiller weekly fund raising post)

  1. First of all theres something i want to mention that i cant really take screenshots of. Ive observed this on @steempeak since thats the frontend i mostly use.

    Screenshot 389.png

When selecting the 100% vote on a post, sometimes Steempeak registers my vote at only 50% when looking at the payout.
Im not sure if that has to do with the frontend visual side or if it is in fact what is registered on the blockchain.

  2. Vote value difference between what i see on Steemworld and Steempeak.
    For example:

    Screenshot 23.png

This is a screenshot on Steemworld and you can clearly see that my value is at 100%=$0.07
If you look at the above screen shot of the slider on Steempeak you can see that the vote value =0.112 STU.. That is not at 100% and is still lower then what Steemworld shows. If i were to look at what Steempeak says about my Vote value i need only to hover over the "i" on my profile page.

Screenshot 27.png

As you can see it says my vote at 100%=0.135 STU

3.The biggest problem im looking for an answer for is the curation values listen on Steemworld.
For some reason, when voting 1 particular person for a while now ive been getting 0 SP from curation on his post. It mostly happens when i vote his posts but ive seen it happen on a few others. The question is if this is SteemWorld issue, if so, please fix it. :D, if not, it would be nice for someone that is skilled in code to find out what is going on.

Screenshot 20.png

These are the values of a few days ago and these are the values now.

Screenshot 388.png

Its pretty confusing as to what is happening, but mostly in the last case so any feedback would be welcome. The first two things could possibly just have to do with Steempeak and how they present values. Still, a clarification would be nice.

I would also mention that Steemit and Steempeak have different "Account Values" but that is something that has been the case since the beginning.

As I said, the weight in the active_votes array for your votes is being returned as 0 from the nodes. Without weight there are no curation rewards. Did you receive any rewards for one of those votes? If not, it's a bug in steemd or your vote has been broadcast multiple times, which I think could lead to no curation rewards too. Did you use an autovoter?

Since the HF, the exact vote amount can no longer be predicted exactly, because it depends on the payout amount of the post you are voting. I added a 'Sim. Payout' button on SteemWorld, so that we can see how much our vote is worth for a given payout. That feature is still being tested and the result may not be 100% accurate, but it already shows roughly how it works.

Oh... I just realized this comment covers the case that a vote was rebroadcasted leading to removing curation. I believe this is what happened, and I confirmed one of the cases for this.

As you can see i got curation 2 times out of 7 in the screenshot. A week ago i got 0/10.

Im using autovoter on most stuff but it seems the problem, in 90% of the time is tied into @vikisecrets posts.
Is there any way i can find out how to remedy this problem?

Hmm. So what is the 0.07$ vote value at 100% showing exactly? How does that compare with Steempeak and its vote slider?

As you can see i got curation 2 times out of 7 in the screenshot. A week ago i got 0/10.

Those are the predicted (coming) rewards, but it would be interesting to see, if you really received a Curation Reward operation after payout (in Account Operations). I'm not sure, if the reason could be that not all nodes are running the fixed version 0.22.1 yet. I will wait till all nodes run the current version and report the issue on GitHub, if it's not fixed then.

So what is the 0.07$ vote value at 100% showing exactly?

It shows that as long as the simulated payout is set to 0, your 100% vote on a post that got no other votes yet (comment for example) is worth ~ $0.07. But keep in mind that (in reality) you always vote the same amount of rshares and your vote's value will go up when other voters vote the same post.

Wanted to add this so you have more data to work with. On 09/04 and again on 09/05 I voted on posts by @theouterlight. It was right after the 5 minute mark and the amount of curation was very small both times. The posts grew to curation of 30.45 and 41.60 respectively, yet shows 0 pending curation rewards for me. Yesterday I voted in at 6 minutes and that post is showing curation. All other posts I vote on that falls right after that 5 minute bar shows rewards, but I'm still not ruling out a possible glitch in the blockchain timer for some accounts. Hoping though it is some sort of communication glitch from the blockchain to your program though as they should have given me my largest curation rewards of the month, lol.

edited to add that the weight for both votes was 100% as shown as well on SteemWorld.

Thanks for your input! I think I can tell you why you don't get curation rewards (directly) for some posts on 3speak:

They seem to be experimenting with the curation logic. The setting allow_curation_rewards is disabled for those posts, so that all rewards go to the author, which is the beneficiary @likwid.

I think that the voters will receive the curation rewards as liquid STEEM or so...

the weight for both votes was 100% as shown as well on SteemWorld.

I know this sounds confusing, but there is a field percentage and a weight for each vote. When a developer talks about the weight, in most cases he means the calculated weight/effect of the vote... ^^

I double-checked this: in this case, the curation rewards don't go to the author, they go to to the pool, much like if everyone voted at 0 minutes and took the full penalty.

But yes they also don't show in any interface as such.

Tagging @practicalthought as FYI.

Thanks for your input! I guess 3speak is working on kind of an own curation logic, but I'm not sure how exactly that will work. I heard something about going back to 25/75. Maybe they will transfer 25% of the benef. rewards back to the voters?

Returning those shares to the pool sounds good, but I'm pretty sure that their authors will loose many voters, if they won't get curation rewards anymore.

Thank you. Hopefully they will add a feature that gives one the knowledge they are forfeiting rewards if voting. Until they do I will need to assume all 3speak posts are forfeiting and unless the post was one of the greatest I have encountered will refrain from participating.

Thank you. I was unaware it was possible to disable curation rewards in that way (without it showing rewards declined). Hopefully they will add a feature so we can know, or they might face a situation where curators bypass the 3speak tags.

Just checked the account operations. I got curation 1 time out of 13 votes to Vikisecrets in last 7 days.
There seems to be an issue here.

@gtg any chance you could take a look at this. Would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like things are getting complicated and I'm just voting around without thinking about these details.

It's much nicer that way.

Ignorance is bliss. Haha. Burrrn. :D

That’s how places like FB got popular. ;)

Upvoted for visibility as you are the second person to talk about these issues, and I don't know how to research the issue.

I'm going to tag @eonwarped because he understands the curation calculations and also has worked extensively with the condenser front-ends which may be just the combination of knowledge to explain this.

Awesome. Yeah, Eon should be able to figure it out.

I inspected what happened in one case, where I saw that a vote was cast at 50% and shortly after changed to 100%. When I checked the code, this scenario zeros out the vote weight, and means that curation rewards for the voter are zeroed out.

I thought that it would make it as if you voted later but it turns out that it actually just zeros it. Wondering if this is something that will be changed in the future, since at least to me it is not what I would expect.

I'm not sure if all your cases are like that or not. By the way, if you do not recall these revote actions, I would recommend checking if autovoters are interfering with things.

It must be the autovoters. I revoked keys on both and turned only 1 off a few days ago. The reason i didnt think of them is because of it makes sense that the vote is registered if the vote is replaced by a different value one.
Its extremely strange that it just zeros the curation all together.

It doesnt make sense that it works like that.

It's indeed very confusing @lordbutterfly

Thx for sharing

I wrote about the confusion surrounding calculating upvote values before upvoting - here. Also explained by @steemchiller, I see, in comments.

Essentially, every platform now needs to make an estimate and many just choose to use different estimates.

As @steemchiller also noted, the vote weights are no longer broadcast, so that any platform needs to simulate the full reward curve formula as each vote takes place. This is also no guarantee as steem uses a number of approximations to handle the huge rshares numbers.

Anyway, hope some of this helps.
