Almost there

A few days ago, I told a story how brotherly love overcome a seemingly daunting task. To recall that story, this coming July 20-22, thousands of people will come to my city for a three-day convention. The challenge, I, along with a group of other men, were tasked to look for cheap or even free accommodation for our brothers who could not afford to stay in a hotel. There are about 400 people needing our help.

At first, it sounded almost impossible. Many of these brothers and sisters are financially-challenged. But that is no excuse to miss out on event that comes only once a year. For us Jehovah's Witnesses, financial difficulty is not a valid excuse to skip on our spiritual meetings. We even heard of experiences of our brothers in poorer countries who had to walk for days just to attend these events.

That's where we come on the scene. We have to make sure that our brothers from distant lands will have a place to stay. A month before the event, we were informed that around 400 people will need our assistance. Months ago, we've been receiving reports of our local brothers who are opening up their houses or even properties for our 400 guests. A week ago, our team visited these places to check if they are suitable for accommodation. Out of the 400 guests, we were able to allocate 280 of them to different locations. We were left with around 120 people still with no place to stay.

It was really stressful. Where can I find a place big enough for all these people? This morning, after our morning ministry, I met a friend whose house is under construction. He knew about our problem and he wanted to help. He told us that his new house will be finished before the convention and he was willing to lend it to be used as an accommodation. That was a big help on our part! I found out that the house is big enough for 30 people!

Here's another unexpected surprise. I heard that another brother from a congregation who owns some apartments has 2 units that will become vacant by middle of July. These two units are big enough for another 30 people! So after doing the math, from 120 people, half of them will no longer have to worry about their accommodation.

This is truly a good example of love at work. We are almost there!
