Telling Time for Preschool and Grade school age children

in #steemph6 years ago (edited)

A DIY printout clock came with the watch my daughter received as a present.

I thought it was a pretty clever way to learn how to tell time. What makes it unique is the in the outer part is another circle that give out the number in minutes. What a great start to learning to tell time up to the 5 minute interval. My son looks at the clock, copied the time on this printout and we read the time together.

The long hand of the clock is where my 4 year old has some difficulty remembering. He always remember the "30" because it always lands on 6 and we use it more often with him. He loves watching Alvin and the Chipmunks during lunchtime and he sees it starts at 12:30 so he has some motivation remembering it.

My little ones learned time in 30 minute then 15 minute and later on in 5 minute intervals.

When learning time, it is easier for little ones to digest the information when they are able to use it in a real life setting. We try to let them wear their watches often so they can track time on their own or can tell us when we ask the time.

Another activity for children could be drawing up a schedule with the time and the task that is on the schedule like wake up, have breakfast, brush your teeth, etc.

I got an email from education.com Community manager and found a great repository of worksheets on their site for telling time. There are a wide range of practice worksheets from preschool to grade school children.

How do you and your children practice telling time? Do you do it often during the course of your day?

Thanks for dropping by 🖒

It’s so great seeing kids to learn how to read the analog clock at such an early age @luvabi! Believe it or not, less and less kids know how to.

My daughter had to learn it for school but my son really just had fun with it. Thanks for reading!

@luvabi You have received a random upvote from @botreporter because this post did not use any bidbots.
