Steem Pope Short Sermon: Comments

in #steempope6 years ago (edited)

This sermon actually on two distinct but related topics: your comments responding to the posts of others, and comments others make in response to your own posts. Writing a post is only one part of engaging with others on Steemit, and comments are where the real relationships are forged.

When commenting on posts others have written, make a substantive comment about the post on which you comment. If you agree with their thesis, say why. If you disagree, explain your perspective on the point of contention. if you like the art, explain what appeals to you. If you learned something, tell them what you learned. Do not just say, "nice post," or "I agree." Even if that is all you really want to tell someone, there are too many people on this platform using bots or just lazy copy/paste methods to spam meaningless compliments, and your good intentions disappear into the background noise.

When someone makes a substantive comment on a post you have made, consider replying in kind. A comment thread conversation can help you meet new people to follow. The most fun part of Steemit is finding a selection of other users who post their own quality original content, and following along as they tell their stories.

Steemit is already far too big to find all of the introductory posts by interesting people, so interaction in the comments is one of the best ways to find the ones who are here for the community, and not just the cryptocurrency.

May the Blog be with you, and may the Blockchain bless you. Go forth, and create original content! Amen.

I'm an enforcer of the "comment kindly". Not only saying "Good post" but really taking the time to address the writer, letting them know what you feel about their post. Even if what you feel is 'generic', you can always broaden the subject to make some substantial comment, that the writer will appreciate more than just a cliché comment.

For example:
Did you like it? Tell them why you liked it.
Did they do something nice? Tell them what made it nice.
Did they use a good picture? Tell them why you think that.
Did they make you think outside the box? Tell them what you think now.
Did you feel compelled to write about something after reading it? Tell them.

There are so many ways to support an author. Your comment might be the one to make them feel appreciated enough not to quit. Why do I mention this? Most people quit Steemit out of two reasons: small return of investment, and no feeling of accomplishment. A comment might be the cheer they need to keep on being amazing.

And this is specially true in other communities... Now that I think about it, your pope is something we DO need in the Spanish community of Steemit. It's really getting out of hand over here hahaha

I can always appoint a bishop.

That would be marvelous! Preach the word of the Steem pope to the souls that have lost their way into the mythical art of the blockchain.

Thank you for being thoughtful and courteous to people. I know a lot of people don't feel appreciated. Glad to see you making efforts to change that with considerate comments.

It is true, every minute there is a lot of new content, in the "life" section, for example, the new publications, after an hour, probably nobody will read them, the amount of content that is created without value is very large. Therefore, it is tedious to filter the publications that were made with effort and those that were made with empty content (expecting a miracle of positive votes), if you made your publication with effort, it will probably be hidden by the new publications that will "push", until no one reads it, that's why it's important to create new relationships every day, "friendships" that read your content with sincerity.

Normally I read all the comments of the publications that I liked, it is curious you, who uploads this type of publications where we can interpret that you do not like the comments in the style of "bots", despite this some people continue to do it hahaha, then I wonder? Is it better not to comment if we only think of saying "good publication" or "I liked it"? Although it is all we have to say? At least I, prefer to just read and give UpVote, not comment if I do not have a substantive comment.

And here beginneth today's lesson, everybody please read and digest this information carefully and put it to use now,

Yes, you've raised a couple of points that definitely resonate with me. Firstly, posts are appearing in the blink of an eye and disappearing just as quickly, regardless of tag. The volumes are staggering and will probably be sufficient to fill all the libraries in the US soon, seeing as they'll be tossing out all their old books! Secondly, the generic one liners, which are also increasing in number, are pretty much ignored and even flagged. Thirdly, the quality of post is deteriorating to the extent that the comment threads are becoming the best place to find great content! Thanks for your post & for keeping the ball rolling!

I plan to cover upvotes, flags, resteems, following, and post content in future sermons too, so keep an eye out!

Actually first time we should read the topics, what that say there post, and then be thinking about that. Last time we right acceptable comment.

Excellent advice...you can always tell if someone actually read your post or not!

Nice topic
I agree with you
There are those who comment on a particular topic
His comment is irrelevant
But only dry and short sentences
Just
There are the type of users
Just looking at the votes
It does not matter your subject
But only your vote
Here they give Stimit a greedy negative image
And wuth this poor comments
we can not promote Stemite
And its development

I have many people who are here because of the community and we can reason with each other, but how to explain to a complete newbie a fact that a spammer earns more while he gets nothing no matter how he tries.
For me, the commenting is a form of the therapy, but many people hate it and some when they see how spam comments get the high value they start to do it themselves.

Blatant spam can always be flagged, reported to SteemCleaners, etc.
