Mario Draghi did the dirty work and ease the way of the next ECB governor

Mario Draghi is likely to end this year with the European Central Bank bond purchase program, and this could increase the chances of the Bundesbank Governor Jens Weidmann to be his successor.
"Mario Draghi did the dirty work", said the former ECB operations manager Francesco Papadia. According to him, the next governor of the European Central Bank will have to return the markets to their normal state, and from this point of view, Weidmann is logical option.
The current ECB Governor, Mario Draghi, has spent his mandate in fighting the risk of deflation and speculative attacks that could otherwise have a negative effect on the Eurozone. Among the biggest measures taken by Draghi are the negative interest rates and the quantitative easing program, which will reach at least 2.55 trillion EUR.
According to Francesco Papadia, the bond purchases will be suspended in September or December this year, which will eventually allow interest rates to rise.
Jens Weidmann has been preferred by economists to take the place of Mario Draghi in October 2019, and because until now the German representative has not taken over the ECB's management, even though it is the largest economy in Europe.
However, it should be reminded that Jensen Jens Weidmann is a constant critic of Draghi's policy.
"Of course, we are not sure that there will be no dirty work for the next eight years, but on the other hand this may not be the worst moment for a German Central Bank to take over the ECB", said Francesco Papadia.
But Jens Weidmann is not particularly fond of the southern countries of the currency union. The Italian government, no matter who will head it, will scarcely spare its constant criticism of the strict adherence to the EU's fiscal rules.
So far, France has been discreet in its reactions, although official sources have already commented that Paris will not be unhappy if other candidates for the post appear. It is still unclear what the plans of French President Emmanuel Macron are, and whether he will give up Merkel's close associate in favor of his own candidate - the Governor of the French Central Bank. For Francois Villeroy de Galhau, however, will be obstacle the fact that another Frenchman, Jean-Claude Trichet, was managing the institution from 2003 until 2011.
