The EU officials refute a proposed new nuclear deal with financial aid to Iran

The European Union sources have denied that during the diplomats meeting in Vienna on Friday will discuss an option to offer Iranian financial aid in exchange for rebates.
A German newspaper reported earlier today that diplomats from the UK, Germany, France, China and Russia will meet in Vienna on Friday May 25 to discuss the next steps after US President Donald Trump's decision of May 8 to withdraw the US from the deal. The newspaper said that diplomats would discuss a proposal for a new agreement between Iran and the world powers, which would be the same as 2015, but with some additions to meet of US concerns about the Iranian ballistic missile program and Tehran's support for armed groups in the Middle East.
"We need to get rid of the name of the Vienna Nuclear Arrangement and add some additional elements, but that could convince President Trump to agree and lift the sanctions again", said a source from the EU. Such an agreement could, in the future, include financial aid to Iran, according to the German newspaper.
But three EU sources involved in talks trying to convince Trump not to quit the nuclear deal have told later today that the information is inaccurate.
The meeting in Vienna on Friday will address implementation issues and some details of the agreement. The meeting will not affect any other issues. There is no comment from the German Foreign Ministry for now.
Iran today said it would take part in a meeting of the joint commission set up by the six world powers, Iran and the EU, to discuss complaints about the implementation of the agreement.
On Friday, the commission will meet at the request of Iran and without the United States to discuss the consequences of the withdrawal of America and how the remaining countries can continue their commitment to the deal.
Tomorrow, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will present a "diplomatic road map" and call for broad support from European and other allies to put pressure on Iran to force him to return to the negotiating table as well as their support for addressing "all threats on the part of Iran". The European Union is not doing enough to preserve the benefits to Iran of the international nuclear agreement of 2015 following the withdrawal of the United States, Iranian Foreign Minister Tehran visiting EU Energy Commissioner Miguel Arias Canete said.
For his part, Canete pointed out that "we must keep this agreement so we do not have to negotiate a new one. Our message is clear - this is a nuclear agreement that works", added the EU Energy Commissioner.
