SCHOOL FOR PARENTS: Games that will help children with ADHD to calm down and be more attentive.

in #steempress5 years ago (edited)

In addition to core symptoms, such as inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity, children with ADHD symptoms often have difficulty regulating their emotions.

Source

Mindfulness is the ability to focus and pay attention to specific details in a relaxed and uncomplicated manner. For children, these exercises or games are especially useful: they help them to disperse less, to improve mental health in general, to strengthen the focus on ADHD, to improve social skills and to recover from the effects of conflict or even harassment .

Here are exercises that can easily become an entertaining game, children like them a lot!

1. The superhero poses

Children love to portray different characters. Tell them that this game is not only fun, it also helps to be stronger and more courageous. The child must imitate the pose of his superhero.

Superman: legs spread shoulder width apart, cuffs tight, arms stretched up, body stretched as much as possible

Wonder Woman: Legs separated shoulder width apart, hands or cuffs resting on hips.

2. Show superpowers

If your children are still on the topic of superheroes, here is an easy way to teach them how to concentrate.

Source

Ask them to include "superpowers," for example, the ability to sense any smell, see the smallest details, hear or touch sounds and objects, as Spiderman can. To do this, children will have to stop and listen to their feelings and feelings.

This is a classic mindfulness exercise, simply dressed in a child-friendly way.

3. The consciousness in a jar

This exercise will teach children how to handle strong emotions if they suddenly feel overwhelmed.

Source

Take a clean, empty jar and fill it with water. Then take out a spoonful of glitter and place it in water. Cover the jar with a lid and shake. And now your mini-lesson begins:

"Imagine that you are angry or upset about something, and the flashes are your thoughts. Do you see how they turn and make it difficult to look calmly through the transparent container and the water? That's why it's so easy to do something stupid when you're upset or angry: your mind is clouded with the same bright thoughts. But do not worry, this happens to each one of us. "

Now put the jar on the table.

"Do you see what happens if we manage to calm down even for a couple of minutes?" Look: the sparks are sinking, and the water becomes clear and transparent again. Your mind works in the same way. When you calm down a little, your thoughts also calm down and you begin to perceive the situation much more clearly. "

4. Visit to the Zoo

This fun exercise will turn an ordinary ride into an adventure.

Source

Tell the children to think about the Zoo. Now the task is to try to hear as many sounds of birds, beetles, insects and all kinds of different animals around. They will have to look and listen to notice even the smallest living creatures..

This exercise teaches you to focus and feel the smallest sounds.

5 We train breathing

Ask the child to lie on the floor and place a soft toy on his stomach. Now the baby should breathe deeply, noticing how high the toy rises with each breath.

Source

This exercise helps children understand what deep breaths are, with which they can calm down, if strong emotions suddenly overwhelm.

6. smells and associations

Take some items that smell good (candles, fresh flowers, fruits, cakes) and have the children smell each one.

Source

Now let everyone say what they think when they smell ("Cinnamon reminds me of grandma's cookies" or "Mandarin smells like the new year").

7. balloons

Give each child a balloon (not helium) and ask them to throw the balloon in the air, and then, do not drop it on the floor.

Source

The objective of this game is to slow down children who are too active and focus their attention on the ball.

8. Feel the muscles

Ask the children to lie on the floor on their backs and close their eyes.

Source

Now they must take turns to tense different muscles as much as they can. First: toes, then feet, muscles in legs and thighs; Then squeeze your hands in fists. After a few seconds, you can relax all the muscles and lie down for a while. Have the children tell what their body was like at the time of this exercise.

"These exercises not only help children to better understand how emotions are organized, but also helps them to capture their attention and learn to regulate their emotions."
