The tantrums of children horrify parents. However, it is an integral part of childhood, and parents can not do anything about it.

Faced with the tantrums of children, you can lose your composure. This is your test of patience, and you must pass it to the end.

Consider why children become hysterical, how parents treat them, and in which cases the child needs medical attention.

What is hysteria

Psychologists say that hysteria is a reaction of a child in situations in which he can not control his emotional impulses. The child loses self-control and ignores the rules of behavior that were previously respected.

Temper tantrums most often occur with children a year and a half and usually last for more than four years. However, for some children, the hysteria continues later.

Why do children get hysterical?

Temper tantrums occur when a child tries to deal with what is happening. It is difficult for a child of any age.

Causes of childhood hysteria.

Source

1. Prefrontal cortex insufficiently formed.

  • The prefrontal cortex is a part of the brain that regulates executive functions including social skills, communication and compliance with moral standards;
  • Sometimes, in young children, the prefrontal cortex is not yet fully developed. Because of this, they can not respond adequately in cases where they do not understand something. This leads to tantrums;
  • The prefrontal cortex usually matures after four years.

2. Underdeveloped limbic system.

  • The limbic system of the brain is closely related to the prefrontal cortex and is responsible for controlling emotions such as fear, frustration, anger or joy;
  • The lack of development of the limbic system often leads children into confusion. Because of this, children are unable to express their emotions accurately. This leads to tantrums. And until the child develops the cerebral cortex, hysteria is the only way in which the child expresses his feelings and satisfies his needs;
  • Like the prefrontal cortex, the limbic system can remain underdeveloped for up to four years.

3. Features

One of the reasons for hysteria in children is complex. Children who are difficult and intolerant to change are more prone to tantrums than others. In addition, their tantrums are more intense than others.

4. Characteristics of communication.

Often, hysteria for a child is the only way to communicate their feelings if their speech is not yet sufficiently developed. Therefore, the child may try to report that he is hungry, upset, tired, sick, that something hurts, etc.

5. The child attracts attention or communicates his needs.

A child can use several signals to get attention. But if he does not pay attention or does not understand what he wants, the child can become hysterical.

6. Excessive rigor of the parents.

If you are too strict with the child and do not allow him to try something new, learn and make mistakes, the home environment pressures him. He gets angry and shows it in the form of hysteria.

7. Frustration

Not mastering a new skill (for example, tying shoelaces or bending clothes) can make a child feel helpless and unable to cope with a particular task. Ultimately, this can cause a tantrum.

8. External causes

Parents expect children over the age of three to behave well at home, outside and in kindergarten. It is difficult for a child to behave well for a long time, so when he gets home he can get hysterical.

9. Home and family.

Any situation in the home in which parents experience anxiety (for example, family conflicts, divorce, parental illness) can also affect the child.
A tantrum in a child can be caused by one or more of the factors mentioned above. However, most of the time its appearance is associated with certain situations.

Situations that lead a child to hysteria.

1. Angry children can get hysterical,

get into uncomfortable or confusing situations, for example, being in a crowded place or in a noisy company.

2. The reaction of the parents.

Children become hysterical when parents show aggression towards them, shouting at them or laughing at them. If the parents show different reactions to the child's behavior, this confuses them even more and provokes hysteria.

3. Not explaining your needs.

When a child can not explain what he wants, he feels helpless. To express his frustration, he becomes hysterical.

The best way to deal with the tantrums of children is to stay calm. Only then can you find a solution to this problem.
