How to help your child learn?

How to help them?

Children today are different from the generations of their parents, grandparents. Modern children have less attention, think faster, have different interests, are more impulsive, more demanding. Its authority must be won, it is not implicit in itself.

On the other hand, these generational changes are usually not accompanied by school textbooks. Unfortunately, parents' expectations regarding children are often inconsistent with what children are today. That is why it is completely understandable why it is easier for your child to remember what he is hearing than what he reads in a book.

What you hear is, in a certain way, part of your personal experience (not necessarily an event to really experience, nor to see, it is enough experience to discuss it with you). And what he reads is still just an "empty letter on paper", that is, something that is with him,

My recommendation, whenever I can, talk to the child. It will be the fastest way to learn and everything you remember will remain long-term memorized. Equally important is that you will maintain a good lasting contact through communication and deepen your understanding of the child so that you can be an interlocutor.

You can facilitate your child's learning in two ways:

1. The rules of learning

Carry out a learning plan, reading lessons from one to the other sub-titles, repeat exclusively out loud, learning only during the day at the time of greatest concentration (never at night), the important pencil underlining of the less important parts of the text.

2. Additional sources of information

When you come to the lessons you do not know much about, have nothing to say, or do not know enough about something ... next to the textbooks, point out to the child additional sources of information: internet, encyclopedias movies, and everything the rest that complements the knowledge. It will be a relief and the child will be instructed to independently perform their homework.

Thanks to these rules, they will learn faster in a shorter time, link the lessons learned in the whole, and grow to logically explain the facts learned instead of just verbalizing.

Do not solve the task to the child "just because" because he thinks it is too difficult for him or that it is a problem that will not be necessary in life. Often you will be right. In fact, much of what our children learn in school in the future will not work for them. However, it is important to acquire certain work habits, develop memory, concentration, adopt a rule of obligations that must be fulfilled.

Therefore, as a parent, always encourage communication, talk to the child (as he does now), but gradually ask him to use so many additional sources of information to be more independent in the mastery of school materials. It is part of a common growth, both for your child and for you.
