Steemwallet Mobile App - Steem at your fingertips

in #steempress5 years ago

Whether it is a million bucks or a dime, every amount of money owned by an average man matters to him and so does where he keeps them. Since money became a store of value, factors concerning its security had always been of utmost importance and over time, Man developed several means of securing money and transacting with the most effective system being the Bank.

The Bank was designed to serve as a secure financial house that provided security for peoples money and also offered services that eased basic transactions like sending money, obtaining loans, withdrawing money, etc, while charging various amount of fees.

But Man has continuously evolved and is evolving and so are his financial needs and identity as regards the safekeeping, privacy, and type of moneyhe chooses to own, especially in this age of technology where a new form of money has come into existence through the revolutionary blockchain technology, the Cryptocurrency, - a form of digital money that exists online.

The Cryptocurrency offers so much more in fulfilling mans financial needs than the traditional money(fiat) system, it offers more security and privacy, it is relatively fast(depending on the infrastructure the cryptocurrency is built on) and requires lesser fees to carry out transactions eliminating the third party and its potential risks. The Cryptocurrency came into existence On October 31st 2008 with the first being the Bitcoin and has since begun to assume a more relevant position in offering of financial services to Man than the traditional banking.

In the traditional currency system, money storage and transactions go through the bank, whereas in the Cryptoccurency, a wallet is simply the interface used as a replacement to serve as the bank.

Cryptocurrency wallets are software programs that store the keys needed to interface with various blockchain so users can monitor their balance, send money and conduct other operations. source

If you want to use Bitcoin or any other Cryptocurrency, you will need to have a digital wallet. There are different categories of wallet with different strengths and capacities. There is the software wallet, the hardware wallet and the paper wallet. The software wallet can be further categorized into mobile wallet, desktop wallet and online wallet. The online wallet runs on cloud and is accessible through any computing device from anywhere with the availability of the internet.

The mobile wallet is available as an application that is downloadable on the mobile phone. They are usually the simplest wallets being that they are mostly always with the owner so it can be easily reachable. The desktop wallet is also like the mobile wallet, an application that can be downloaded and installed on the desktop. It is relatively safe because all keys exists offline.

There is also the hardware wallet and the paper wallet. The infrastructure of hardware wallet is built to exist offline on flash drives. So when a user needs to access it, all he has to do is plug it into any computer, enter the code and transact. The paper wallet works with a software wallet, it can also refer to a piece of software that is used to securely generate a pair of keys which are then printed and used to transact when connected to the software wallet.

Different wallets offer different levels or layers of protection. When selecting a wallet, it is important to consider all options to help determine what wallet one needs. There are multi-currency wallets that are suited to handle multiple Cryptocurrency, while there are also single-currency wallets designed to operate with a particular Cryptocurrency.

Steemwallet

The Steemwallet is a typical example of a single-currency mobile wallet. The Steemwallet is designed for users of the Steem blockchain. It is a fast, secure and open source mobile application created by roelandp, a top 20 witness on the steem blockchain. It is available for download on both App Store for IOS and Google Play for Android. It is also very easy to use and is ranked #466 on the list of dapps on State Of The Dapps with a profile strength of 82%. Currently, the Steemwallet is the only mobile wallet available for users of the Steem blockchain. With the Steemwallet, users can send and receive Steem cryptocurrency easily from the comfort of their mobile phone.

Is Steemwallet Safe?

Encryption wise it is just as safe as the cli_wallet app provided by the Steem software, using AES 256 encryption and per device & per (re-)install unique initialization vector. Also the app obliges you to choose a difficult guess passphrase for encrypting your wallet file. source

It is built with the same infrastructure of the native Steem blockchain online wallet which uses the most Advanvced Standard of Encryption. The passphrase system helps to seamlessly encrypt and decrypt wallet files by offering fingerprints and face-id options. It also enables monitoring of multiple accounts from within the app.

How To Use

It is available for download on both App Store for IOS and Google Play for Android

  • After download and install.
  • The first page to see is the welcome page
bng.JPG
  • The next page requests for your username, after being entered, it refreshes and shows the balance.
  • There are two options available, send and receive.
  • To receive steem into the wallet, the users unique wallet barcode is shown along with the users wallet address
  • To send steem out of the wallet, I clicked send and the page requested for my active keys which I then used to authorize the send right from the app.

Compare With Similar App Wallet EOCAT

EOCAT is a Cryptocurrency wallet like Steemwallet, but it is designed to operate on the EOS blockchain. It offers similar levels of security and have similar mode of operation. It is also available on Google playstore and App Store for IOS. However, as similar as they maybe, there are still little differences. EOCAT enables its users have access to receiving free airdrops as a virtue of holding EOS with the wallet. Steemwallet has no means of incentivizing it's users, I believe this will interest people more and boost their enthusiasm concerning using the wallet.

Conclusion

In the world of Cryptocurrency, the first rule is never to invest more than you are willing to loose. This is because of the nature of the system and knowing this, it is important to keep abreast of all security concerns relating to how and why about our keys and the type of wallets we choose to associate our funds with. The truth is as much as we know the Cryptocurrency space is risky, no one wants to loose money, and no one like to hear that some users actually have all their life savings in Cryptocurrency, so being careful is of utmost importance.

The Steemwallet is very easy to access and use. It is secure and offers multiple layers of security. Users can easily monitor their transactions, send and receive money. I hope the dev team can add more functionalities to the app like ability to lend, loan and receive airdrops through the application, I believe this will motivate its usage and further make it a tool steemians cannot do without.

Will you like to try the Steemwallet now?

Thank you for your contribution to Steemwallet application. Steem wallet is indeed a cool project.

I appreciate that you wrote about the app. However, the post is not as descriptive as I would have loved to see.

First, Steemwallet has more features more than you reviewed. If you check the setting page, you will see more exciting features and functions of the app.

Also, about the comparison, I think It would have been better if you had made it more extensive. A side-by-side comparison is always better than a brief one. I hope you consider this in your future contributions.

Further, on the presentation side, you did great. I like the visuals and the structure, but the writing could have a rework. There are many hard to read sentences. You wrote some of your paragraphs as a sentence. Short sentences are easy to read. I would recommend that you use the Hemingway app to check your text’s readability.

In conclusion, I appreciate your work, and I hope to receive more contributions from you.
