Computational Thinking

Having the ability to solve problems, especially solving for those that are complex, is a necessary skill that all people will need to obtain and master for the 21st century. Computational Thinking is a problem solving process that utilizes four main tenets:

  1. Decomposition
  2. Pattern Recognition
  3. Pattern Generalization and Abstraction
  4. Algorithm Design.

This process was coined and made popular by Jeannette Wing who has an extensive background in Computer Science research. From leading Microsoft Research and being one of the most influential individuals at one of the worlds most important companies or her current role as the Director of the Data Science Institute at Columbia University, she is a pioneer in this field.
