Throwaway Society.

How We Have Changed.

Today's attitudes to appliances have changed over the past few decades, in the 'old' days, if you had an appliance with a frayed cord, you would either repair it yourself, or even take it to a repair shop, plugs used to be interchangeable, allowing you to replace the plug (and the fuse.)

In fact, I remember opening up various things such as radios, razors, toasters etc and fixing the problem, I even attempt nowadays if something goes wrong but as we live in a throwaway society, and our demand for cheap products make this almost impossible, with appliances produced to do what they do, with no thought into the possibility of repairing. The figures reflect this, with one one in ten people attempting to repair a broken appliance. This is understandable when you think back 20 years a DVD player that would cost a weeks wages now cost less than an hours wages.

Already we are in a dilemma with plastics in the ocean, next will be appliance mountains and the impact that has on the enviroment.

Rant over. Thanks for reading.
