Harvest Restaurant Bangkok: rustic dinner review

in #steempress5 years ago

When we walked down the pathway the clean look of the wooden structure immediately got our attention. After we entered the modest looking building, we were blown away. The rustic look of the Harvest restaurant will take you miles away from the city of angels. Beyond doubt, the jazz rhythms bust the imagination and the smell of food gets you ready in a second. No wonder that this place is on the list of the cool restaurants in Bangkok.

Ambiance

This place is truly unique! The design enhanced the look of the picturesque countryside house with wrecked concrete walls. The rustic and shabby interior with so many details makes for a heartwarming image. With this in mind, the large panel wooden windows let mystic sunlight into the Harvest restaurant and provide some light to the green plants, which spruce up the ambiance. As a result, this enjoyable atmosphere gives you a homey feeling, what I think was designers first idea.

Details are those which makes places special.

Even though the place is airy and spacious, you will easily find a more intimate spot. We opted for the upstairs landing area from where we could get a bird’s eye view of the entire place.

Starter

The Mediterranean inspired dishes with fresh and high-quality ingredients surely sounded great. Even better for us, as we were starting to miss some familiar flavors after almost a year of traveling around South East Asia. So yes, it was about time for some comfort food. After checking the Harvest restaurant menu, we decided to start with the char-grilled octopus tentacle with fennel and chorizo.

Char-grilled octopus tentacle with fennel and chorizo. Amazingly well-performed dish. Who would say chorizo likes octopus?

We much enjoyed the three variations of fennel in this dish: the marinated fennel brought the refreshing notes to the plate, the smoked fennel served as a connection between the chorizo and octopus, while the caramelized fennel brought everything together. The octopus was very well prepared, it was soft and tasty. At first, we weren’t convinced about the role of chorizo in this dish, but all together, it was a nice blend of sweet and pungy flavors.

Simple and nice food plating.

Pasta

As it is a Mediterranean restaurant in Bangkok, there has to be some pasta on the table, and we went for the special; the pasta al fungi. It had everything: homemade flat sheet pasta, mushroom mix and truffles. In addition to that, thyme infused brown butter, roasted butternut squash and parmesan added even more flavor.

The combination sounded so nice that we didn’t change our minds when we found out that the Harvest restaurant had run out of truffles for the day. In the end, we were happy with the flavorful and crunchy mushrooms alongside the al dente pasta. Have we mentioned that the cured egg that was still runny? Some say the cured egg is the new parmesan, but honestly, how can an egg be better than cheese? Then again, why bother eliminating one when you can have both?

Main dish

The grilled Iberico pork with baked apples was really a pleasant surprise. The meat was the king, and it was nicely grilled. We simply loved the combination of caramelized apples that uplifted the dish. The applesauce and pumpkin really brought out the sweetness in the pork. In addition, the caramelized onion and rosemary seasoned potatoes on the side rounded everything together and made it a nice rustic dish.

Desserts

We went for two desserts here at Harvest restaurant. The first one was the Messy Mille Feuille, served on a wooden board. The crispy puff pastry with rich cream was mouthwatering just by itself. When combined with the caramelized pear and mulberry confit, it was even better. If that is too sweet for you, the fresh strawberries and edible maple are there to cut through the sweetness, with their slightly sour taste.

The second dessert was the smooth semifreddo, made of 85% Valhora chocolate and hazelnut. It was very likable with the mixed berry compote, which added more juice to the lush dessert. There is nothing to add, it was simply delicious.

Conclusion

This was a really comforting experience, with picture-perfect matchings at every step. To put it another way, the food matched the rural atmosphere of the Harvest restaurant in presentation and satisfying flavors. The only thing that didn’t make us happy were the prices, which were above our expectations. Especially when there are no steps taken towards eliminating the unavailable ingredients.

Table at Harvest Restaurant
Cozy place.

In case of a shortage, some substitutes could be added, but still, all the dishes were very well executed. We felt great at Harvest Restaurant Bangkok. After our late lunch, we saw they opened their bar, The WoodShed Bar, which is in the same style as the restaurant and cocktails are the real artisan deal. It was too tempting not to stop there, so we stayed and tried out a few of their cocktails, our review of which will be out next week.

Lighting was very subtle here at Harvest Restaurant Bangkok, so making a photo here was hard. However, the mood is rustic ;)

Price and Location

The menu we had at this Insta place will set you back about 100.00 USD, for two people. If you would like to give a try of this rustic dishes, here is a link to the location.
