Living in Romania – The new life after the long "vacation"

Yesterday I was telling you about the two brothers, Fane and Vasile Costache, who, for seven years in a row, they only met at the speaker in prison. Only that, during this long period, their roles have always been reversed.

Going back to Fane, he stated after his first "vacation" that, while he was counting his days in the cell, he was seeing on the window of the jail his mother putting the laundry to dry on the balcony. Fane got so "lucky" to spend his jail sentence in a famous prison, just a few hundred meters aways from his home.

Years passed by, Fane and Vasile got old and the thug life was gone. So, they needed a job. Full of his slick life, Vasile went to Working Administration to try his luck. Asked by a representative of the institution if he had any convictions, Vasile didn’t want to destroy his chances and scare the hell out of that guy and said very calm: "One or two and for a short-term". "OK, let me check your record first and I will try to help you find a job. See you tomorrow!", answered the Working Administration employee.

Next day, Vasile came back very confident when he had a shock: the employee was standing in front of him with big red eyes and "low battery". "Sir, are you kidding me? I read you record all night and 32 years of jail in 48 years of life means just a few convictions to you?"

And that’s how Vasile got back to his unfortunate life swearing his faith. Few years later, my mom saw him in front of the gate of one of the biggest hospitals in Bucharest! Dressed in uniform. Of a security company, you know what I’m saying? An that’s how the convict became a guard. That remainded me of a famous Romanian saying: "The wolf is now guarding the sheep"!
