Monster Raffle Fundraising Concept : Feedback Requested

in #steemsilvergold6 years ago (edited)

We’ve just finished up the biggest raffle fundraiser I’ve seen here on STEEM and I am still in a little bit of shock just how well it turned out in the end. After a slow start there was an avalanche of support that came in late and it was a sight to behold. The ever-generous @raybrockman again showed us all how it’s done by putting up some great prizes and then @thedamus came in and sweetened the pot with some more shiny silver. It was great to see and it got me thinking….

As a community here at #SteemSilverGold we can’t rely on just one or two guys generosity every month to raise funds to sustain our STEEM POWER Leases. It’s not really fair to expect that these guys can continue to donate so much, but that said if you know these guys - It’s going to be hard to stop them! Raffles seem to be pretty popular here amongst #SteemSilverGold members and we are growing and maturing all the time so I think our members are maybe ready to go to the next level and organise a combined Monster Raffle as part of a monthly fundraising program.

This is a concept I have seen work in the real world and now that I’ve been thinking about it more it seems like a logical next step for #SteemSilverGold. What is a Monster Raffle you ask? How would it be different to what @raybrockman and @thedamus just pulled off? Let me outline a couple of ways we could make things even bigger and better.

1. Open Prize Donation Up to all Members

There are actually a lot of us here who like to donate to a good cause. We could have a pre-raffle round calling for prize donations so that we could pool prizes together to make a really sweet pot of the shiny stuff. Even if people just want to throw in 1oz of Silver it might not be a lot to them but it can make a huge difference to a new stacker. If we have a whole bunch of prizes and are selling raffle tickets to all and sundry then it’s actually a good way for us to get some precious metals into more new stackers hands and potentially grow our group. This can help us get the word out and promote our core message about the value of Gold and Silver.

2. Canvas Businesses for Sponsorship and Cross-Promotion

There are already a few businesses amongst the ranks of #SteemSilverGold plus a myriad more who might be interested in also donating prizes to a Monster Raffle in exchange for a bit of exposure with this community. By donating a prize Businesses can publically show their support for #SteemSilverGold and maybe even pick up a few customers in the process with some cheap advertising as part of the Monster Raffle Promotion. At the end of the day there are a lot of cashed up stackers in this group who are buying Gold and Silver regularly so this is a group where advertising can be a real benefit. Sponsorship can be the type of arrangement that can really be a Win-Win for both the Businesses and the Community Members and this sort of thing could help bring us another step closer to having actual real world commerce happening on the STEEM platform.

3. Turn the Draw into a Live Discord Event

If we had a set date and time for the raffle to go off we could actually do it live in our Discord server. This will help promote our Discord server as well as foster some more engagement amongst our membership and generate some real excitement as people pile in to see the draw happen live. We once had a Town Hall Meeting where the topic was a bit controversial, but those who were there would remember how awesome it was to see so many stackers in the Discord together actually having a chat. Whether it’s text or voice it doesn’t matter, more engagement amongst community members has to be a good thing. Wouldn’t it be great if we had a fun and exciting catalyst for getting everyone together once a month where could engage and casually talk about stuff? I think turning a Monster Raffle into a Discord Event could be just the catalyst. I have done a few random draws in Discord before and you can get some random number generating bots we could easily use. It’d also be a good saving as @raybrockman had to fork out $39 USD from his own pocket last raffle since we went past 100 tickets. We can do all this stuff ourselves with tools that are free and readily available.

I’d be proposing to schedule a Monster Raffle for the first week of a new month. This would be AFTER our Membership Contributions are due for a new month, but DURING our SP Lease renewal negotiations for that month so that we are able to immediately put ALL funds raised to work for the benefit of ALL the Members of #SteemSilverGold.

Have a think about these ideas and please leave your comments below.

Holy shit, could you imagine if every member donated just 1 oz of silver and it went into a pot for a MEGA raffle. You would be looking at close to 100 oz prize. Oh my god @buggedout, this thing could get HUGE. I like it, I like it a lot. I know this is a rough sketch but shit you got my eyes watering and my stackitus itching.. what ever I can do, considerate done. Great job my friend.

I agree man. I've been getting a bit excited about the possibilities here for a few days now!

Glad to hear you can see the potential here too :)

Great ideas buggs! One BIG raffle per month wouldn’t be too much of a burden on players or contributors, and it would be really fun to see some members win big!!!

😎👍👍

I knew you would be up for it ;)

Indeed, and depending on the groups appetite there's still plenty of room for smaller ones.
Can’t wait!

I like the idea of a montly BIG raffle, but it should not be HUGE because it will be very difficult to keep it HUGE only on donations. If it happens, it may demotivate people from participating.

Sounds like a great idea. Just a little goes a long way. i could through in some silver for the cause.

Sounds great. Stay tuned while we knock some of the rough edges off the ideas :)

Sounds like a great idea!! I would be willing to throw in some shiny for it!

Great to hear! All positive responses so far so it looks like this might be happening! :)

I think that the best of the 3 proposals is the discord event.

It is always nice to chat and get to know other steemians and I would be down for that!

Cheers mate!

For sure. We might to have a competition to see how many people we can cram into the one Discord chat ;)

Not really sure as I’m not involved much in the silver and gold community but looks like it’s a very tight knit community. Delegating some responsibilities to members might be a good way to go. Looks like the first raffle was a success, good luck with the next one

As far as I'm concerned everything is on the table. At the start I actually think this might be easier than having @raybrockman do data entry for all those raffle entries since I can pull data into a spreadsheet straight from SteemSQL. But expansion and delegation go hand in hand :)

Yeah at first there will probably be a big workload and expenses for a few but hopefully a few months down the road you’ve built up a good team and it pays off. That’s what I’m seeing in the comedy community. @comedyopenmic was started just a few months ago and is growing exponentially now.

Great idea! I'd put up one of my company ounces for this!

Hello! I thought about this for a long while. It is a great idea. However, I think we need more participation all-around if this is to succeed the way you envision it. For example, the myprecious creation trail is also a great idea, but to date we only have 11 people signed up. SSUK's post about rule changes is a great idea too - not many responded. I hate to put a damper on the excitement, but IMHO, we should address core issues first.

True, more participation is always important.

For me though, raising funds to sustain our SP Leases is a core issue though :)

I will support this monster of a raffle! Hell yes!
