A couple of weeks back I visited my local coin shop in search of fresh treasures. Well wouldn’t you know, some man had just sold 400 bars to the LCS to get money for his property tax bill!!!

His loss, my gain... 😬

I picked up six bars (not the best with 400 to choose from!!!). Alot of the bars were the same (dude was a total stacker). I only took home bars that were different from the rest. Here are four of the six.

Bar One - “Merica” 🦅

From what I can gather this bar was fairly common in it’s day and there are still plenty around. The draw for me was two fold:

1. The bar was new to me.
2. Silver this close to spot will bring a profit later, and with no emotional attachment to the bar it will be easy to let go when the time comes. ☺️

Bar Two - “Yankee Doodle” 🇺🇸

Not quite a bicentennial bar, but still a nice patriotic little piece. 1973, some revolutionary musicians on one side, mint mark on the other.

Bar Three - “The Watergate Bug”

This bar is right up my alley. I like silver with historical context. I also like the detailing on the beetle and the old school recording device.

Bar Four - “The Watergate Gang”

Another bit off history, this bar depicts the Watergate Seven, President Richard Nixon’s advisors and aides who were indicted for their roles in the Watergate scandal.

Quick History lesson:

The Watergate scandal began when several burglars were arrested in the office of the Democratic National Committee, located in the Watergate complex of buildings in Washington, D.C. The prowlers were connected to President Richard Nixon’s reelection campaign, and they had been caught wiretapping phones and stealing documents. Nixon took aggressive steps to cover up the crime afterwards, and in August 1974, after his role in the conspiracy was revealed, Nixon resigned. Source
