What can you buy with 500 Dram?

Today we are sharing our 2016 Noah's Ark 1 oz t 999 fine Silver coin. it has been minted annually since 2011 and it is an Armenia government issued coin with a face value of 500 Dram.

This was always a favorite story for both of us and we really liked the design.
Starting with the reverse: the coin has an great image of the ark floating in the receding waters by Mt. Arat with a Dove and an olive branch and says Noahs Ark in English and Armenian

The Obverse shows the Armenia coat of arms, 500 drams (the country's official currency), the year of mintage, 999 Fine silver silver 1 troy ounce. Engraved along the edge is the state title of Armenia in both English and the ancient Armenian script.

Being Americans we often do not get much exposure to smaller countries and their culture, coins are a great way to learn about the history of a country. The Republic of Armenia is located in the mountainous landscape at the crossroads of Europe and Asia. For most of the countries history Christianity has been (and still is) the heart to Armenia's cultural heritage. This small country was founded by Thaddeus and Bartholomew who were two of Jesus' apostles,, according to local lore. It is recorded that in 301 A.D. Armenia became the first country in the world to adopt Christianity and make it the official religion. Mount Ararat, is said Noah's Ark came to rest after the Great Flood ( as told in Genesis 7 and 8), is located in Armenia, this gives the country very tight ties to the Old Testament scene as depicted on this beautiful coin.

After a quick google search we learned that 500 Dram equals $1.03 USD Currently so although 500 Dram sounds like a lot more than a Dollar they can buy exactly the same amount of items. This coin is obviously worth the spot price of silver(Currently $16.58) and the small government premium plus the numismatic value, if you want to buy one they are currently available on Ebay for $32.99 https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.X500+dram+noahs+ark+2016.TRS0&_nkw=500+dram+noahs+ark+2016&_sacat=0

Now that we know a little more about the coin and had to trash our dreams of all the shopping we could do with 500 Drams
