Coin of the day, Jack of Hearts.

Today we have the 2008 Canadian Jack of hearts coin. Yep it's a rectangle, just like a playing card-and that's the whole point of this piece. The story goes that playing cards were used as currency for awhile in Europe and this is a copy of one.

This side would not have had our beloved queen on it and for sure would not have been from Canada.

It's hard to see, but there are markings on the bottom that replicate the original playing card.

I'm not too sure what's going on here but the gold plating looks to be poorly done.

It is made of Sterling silver (92.5% silver and 7.5% copper) and weighs just slightly more than a troy ounce. Perhaps the gold plating and colouring push the weight up a bit?

And there is the coa. I think there are 4 different 'cards' in the set.

I know the photos are not too great, it is quite difficult to photograph a mirror with my Samsung Galaxy S6. Thanks for looking though.

Now that's different, a coin like a playing card! And coloured as well - would that be hand painted on? Combined with the plated edge it gives it a very grand effect.

All you need is two sets of the 4 different ones, and you can play a very noisy game of "snap' with the kids!
