The British Trade Dollar Gold story

The normal British Trade dollar are normally issued in silver from 1895 to 1935 for trade in East Asia. The Obverses feature an allegorical figure of Britannia and reverses depict the denomination "One Dollar" in Chinese and Malay, along with an ornamental design.

The trade dollar are minted from three place. The main place to produce it is in Bombay which can be identify with the "B" mint mark. Those from Calcutta, bearing a ‘C’ mint mark. Those come from London, bearing no mint mark.

The record of the gold proof trade dollar record go as far back as 1903 at the Murdoch sale. All the gold proof trade dollar were specially truck at the request of a private individual who supplied the necessary bullion and paid the prescribed minting charges . They are more correctly referred to as proof restrikes .
