“It is not Husam I am worried about wench!” He said as he stroked his beard nervously, “It is a Scottish warship that I am preparing the city for war against!”
“Humf!” She protested, “Six cannon and two hundred soldiers, and a whole city of people who hate you! And with this you think you will defeat a warship?!”
“Silence! Or I will have your tongue for your insulence!”

[On-board the Silverton...]

As southerly winds pushed the Silverton north three quarters of a mile, the usual hoots and cat-calling commenced as Captain Stubborn's frigate now lie just two hundred yards to their north-east...

[Captain’s chartroom…]

Warrant Officer- Surgeon Ickied, Seaman- Ordinary Seaman Upu and Arab pearl trader Asif all sat across the table from the Captain.

“Whit is yer report oan thes cheil Ickied?" The Captain asked, motioning towards Asif.
“Weel Sairrr, he's proven himself tae be a guid sailur, takes his orders an' diz his duties."
“An' th' language thing?"
“Ahh hav assigned Seaman Upu haur ta’ teach heem Sassenach Sairrr. He's bin workin' wi' heem fur weeks noo..."
“Hmmm…” The Captain turned to Asif, “What's yer nam cheil?"

Asif scooted his chair closer to the table before answering…

“Asif Abu Ja’far Haruun Al Rasheed bin Muhammed Al Mahdi bin Abdullah Al Mansur bin Ali bin Abdullah ibn Al Abbas ibn Abdul Mutallib ibn Hashim Al Abbasi Al Hashimi Al Qurashi.”

“Blye me! That's milkin' th' coo a bit far mucker. Let's jist gang wi' Asif. " The Captain said as he glanced at Ickied, who shrugged his shoulders.
“Hoo much Sassenach has he learned seaman?" The Captain asked Upu.

A bit nervous speaking to the Captain, he hesitated a moment then continued…

“Weel Sairrr, he's learned th' nam’ ay th’ main parts ay th' ship, he's learned hoo tae ask fur scran an' tae say a puckle ay things haur an' thaur. He seems quite smart Sairrr."
“Hmmm…” The Captain grunted as he turned to Ickied, “Ahh promised heem tae be crew, but Ahh cannae giv heem commain ower any men yit, e'en though he was his ain skipper. Ahh’m puttin' heem under yer watch Ickied. Let's brin' heem in as Seaman- Able Seaman fur noo."
“Aye Sairrr.”

The Captain then unrolled an old map. It was a detailed chart of the city of Aden and the surrounding reefs, shallows and the open seas of the Gulf of Aden. He flattened the chart out and pointed at the city…

“Dae ye knows whaur tha guns ur?" He asked Asif slowly.

Asif glanced down at the map and then back up at the Captain. He didn’t seem to understand…

“Th’ guns cheil- Boom! Boom!" The Captain repeated slowly, this time pointing with his hand like a gun and making the sound.

Asif’s eyes lit up and he glanced back down at the map. Then he carefully ran his finger along the eastern side of the extinct volcano…

“Guns...” He said quietly.

The Captain looked up at Seaman Upu with a smile, “Fine job mate!”
